The first keeper of the station was Captain John A. Sikes who served until January 1, 1893 when he was replaced by Lieutenant George W. Smith. The station grew rapidly and by 1912 it had three keepers and a staff of 14 officers and men. In 1916 the Captaincy was vested in an Assistant Commandant who reported to Major General Alfred L. Kilbourne Jr.. In 1934 the Assistant Commandant became a lieutenant colonel and commandant status was retained until 1957 when it reverted back to captaincy status upon appointment of Lt Colonel Luther C. Hinson as Commandant/Assistant Commandant for Administration and Headquarters Department located at Fort Myers, Florida Harbor Master from July 1, 1957-July 30, 1958. In 1978 Commodore Harry Biddle assumed command of the coastal guard station effective July 1st after six years as Deputy Commander US Coast Guard District Miami-Fort Lauderdale area On October 12th 1980 Commodore Biddle sailed his flagship " USS Constitution" into Charleston harbor to congratulate then Mayor William Jealous on becoming one half owner (the other being Gail Collins) of newly built Battery Point Shopping Center which opened that same year anchored by Constitution off Ashley Pointe on Hilton Head Island

Anderson is a small town located in the southern Appalachian Mountains of South Carolina. The population was 9,868 at the 2010 census. Anderson is one of three towns in Greenville County and it is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Anderson was founded in 1824 by James Anderson, Sr., a white man and expeditioner who had traveled through what is now South Carolina looking for new land to settle. In 1828, James Anderson, Jr., also a white man and member of an exploring party that had crossed into Alabama, came to Anderson with news of rich coal beds east of the mountains. The town was named after him because he had first discovered the coal beds there. In 1886, Greenwood Plantation (now known as Greenwood Village) was established on land owned by James Aiken, one of the founders of Greenville County. The estate included more than 60 miles (96 km) of valley floor and its own water system. It became one of the most important African American plantations in South Carolina during this period. In 1928, Greenwood Plantation burned down; however, no damage was done to any buildings or trees within the plantation itself. This incident made national headlines because it demonstrated how easily plantation owners could lose their property in colonial times without consequence. The following year saw another such fire when a barn on DeKalb Island caught fire while being used as storage space for rice chickens belonging to Mrs Glennon Waddell; only two people were injured in this incident which caused much public outcry against careless farming practices on plantations throughout America at this time.
