The Newport Coffee Company was founded in 1807 by Nicholas Seigel and his brother, Peter. The company operated out of the old Red Lion Tavern on John Street in Newport. The Seigel brothers were entrepreneurs who traded coffee beans from Africa with merchants around the New England area. In 1821, they opened a small warehouse at 5 Broad Street in downtown Newport to sell their coffee. They continued to operate out of this location until 1865 when they moved to 529 State Street in downtown Newport and changed their name to Saint Nicholas Coffee Company. The company operated as a business until it merged with the Republic Coffee Company in 1912.
Newport, Rhode Island is a seaside town located on the South Shore of Newport County in southeastern Rhode Island. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1688 as an English settlement by General Richard quartered there with troops for his war against Spain. The town grew rapidly during the 18th century, reaching its peak in 1775 when it had a population of 1,500. In 1800, Commodore Samuel Graves renamed it Portsmouth after his flagship in Narragansett Bay and moved the naval barracks to Newport from Providence. By 1830, however, Portsmouth's growth had slowed and the new name was reverted to Newport. During World War II, Newport served as a major shipbuilding center for the United States Navy. The most famous product of this period were USS "Titanic" (1914), USS "Laconia" (1918), USS "Ranger" (1922) and USS "Providence" (1942). A number of other warships were built here includingUSS "Wasp", USS "Hornet", USNS "Portsmouth"-class hospital ships USNS "Caledonia" and USCGC "Samuel Graves". In recent years, Newport has become known for its surfing exploits which are made popular by locals and visitors alike on both local beaches and more distant locations like neighboring Provincetown. The first non-native inhabitant of what is now Newport was Giovanni de la Riva who arrived there from England around 1630s looking for land grants that he could sell to his fellow Jesuits. He found no takers so he returned home but left behind two small villages: Pawtucket on Narragansett Bay and Johnstone's Point onthe mainland shoreline opposite present-day Warwick Avenue near where State House now stands. She also started the now ubiquitous Blue Bottle Coffee company, which has been producing quality artisan coffees since 1978. In addition to Josie Maran, another important figure in this vein is Carlos Santana – one of the most popular and well-known music stars in the world today thanks to his role as lead singer for Santana Records and his own band, The Allman Brothers Band. He was also one of the first people to import whole bean Brazilian coffee into the United States, starting a long tradition of importing high-quality Colombian and other international beans into America. Other major players in this area include Peter Luger (founder of Dutch telespresso chain Café L’Oreal) and Howard Schultz (founder of Starbucks). These individuals have helped contribute significantly to artisan coffee culture both domestically and abroad.

Newport is a city in Rhode Island and the capital of the Newport County. The population was 34,702 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Seekonk River, about 15 miles (24 km) east of Providence and 25 miles (40 km) west of Boston. The city has been an important commercial center since its founding in 1638 by English colonists as part of Narragansett Bay. In 1834, it became part of Boston and was renamed for King George IV of England after his visit to America in 1828. After becoming an independent republic in 1965, Newport joined the United States as a state in 1968. As a result, it lost its federal status but retained its congressional district and mayoralty until 2015. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Newport around 1638 when English colonists were trying to find a new landbase for their colony following their unsuccessful attempt to establish an empire in North America during the early seventeenth century. The first permanent European settlement was founded on Fort Middletown nearby in 1639 by Captain John Smith with five passengers under his command from Jamestown Colony. At that time, the area then known as Portsmouth was sparsely populated and dotted with small villages scattered around present-day Warwick, Cranston, Salisbury, Pawtucket and other townships along Narragansett Bay which had been established by Native Americans over hundreds of years before as trading posts between local chiefdoms and empires including French Canada & Spanish Mexico). On July 3rd, 1639 James I's charter granted Letters Patent unto Nicholas Peake giving him "all sd [Portsmouth] plantation ... situate upon high water mark aforesaid" (the grant being confirmed by Marthas Vineyard Company on July 12th). This development marked one of several significantfirsts involving English settlements within what would become Rhode Island; all others occurring within 10 years or less after Smith's arrival: Salem (1641), Warwick (1645), Bristol (1647), Kingston (1649), Norfolk(1651), Providence Plantation(1706), Narragansett Bay Settlement(1714/15) - see also "English Colonies Landed & Settled Within Rhode Island" - pp 178-182 In 1723 John Montresor purchased much of what is now Newport from Governor Roger Williams for £1 million which made it one of only two British colonies to be bought outright from Colonial officials - along with Carolina (#2). Only Virginia (#3) achieved this feat prior to Confederation when most British colonies were merged into Newcastle-upon-Tyne through legislation passed by Parliament on January 1st 1807 under Queen Anne#4 aka 'The Act for Securing Justice between Great Britain and her American Dependencies' - p 511 It should be noted that Providence Plantation did not actually come into existence until May 26th 1726 following purchase from Colonel Edward Winslowe #5 who had leased it from Samuel Deering #6 who had received it from Sir Richard Atkins #7 backdated to November 4th 1700! That same year Lord Dunmore chartered HMS Bounty commanded by Lt Cdr Johnstone under exclusive direction of Admiral Vernon gave us our very own town named Portsmouth Royal Dockyards! Which begs another question..... How exactly did we get our name? well according to many historians... New World history buffs will know that Portsmouth derives its name directly form Plymouth Harbor where large warships used to unloaded munitions during WWI Bound For Germany!!! So there you have it folks... Our illustrious city got its dubious honors straight from whence they sprang!!!
