The York County Militia was a militia regiment of the United States Army. It was formed in 1795 as the York Light Infantry and served until 1814. The regiment was redesignated the York County Regiment in 1815 and served until 1861.
York is a borough in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and is the home of York University. The population was 21,824 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The name "York" comes from two adjacent valleys that drain into the Monongahela River: one near Mount Hope and another near present-day Yorktown Heights on the east side of town. The settlements around these valleys were called "Noah's Ark," after President Noah's visit to America in 1795. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Memphis, Tennessee to Yorktown Heights to meet Napoleon Bonaparte there for a peace treaty negotiations which ended with Jackson's victory over Napoleon at New Orleans three years later. Afterward, General Jackson assigned part of his army to guard Fort Pitt on the Monongahela River opposite Yorktown Heights until it could be built by private enterprise as an artillery fortification known as Forts Pitt and Preble (now Fort Knox). The first mention of what became known as York Township appeared in a deed dated November 16, 1792, between John Armstrong and David Rossman concerning land belonging to Thomas Brownell Jr., Surveyor General for Pennsylvania under George Washington during the Northwest Indian War (1780-1788). That same year saw other purchases by Armstrong including 350 acres (1 km2) northeast of present-day downtown Yorktown Heights along Juniata Creek; this tract became known as "Armstrongstown". In 1800, Joseph Harris conveyed 1,500 acres (50 hectares) northwest of downtown Yorktown Heights along Beaver Creek to Colonel Arthur Stroudsley; this parcel became known as "Stroudstown". In 1802, Ezekiel White sold 5 square miles (12 sq km) southeast of downtown Yorktown Heights along Juniata Creek for $200 to Captain Levi Coffin; this tract became known as "Coffinville". In 1809 Samuel Bowman purchased 2 square miles (4 sq km) northeast of downtown Yorktown Heights along Beaver Creek for $100 from James Wohlgemuth; this tract became known as "Wohlgemuthown". On October 10, 1800 – one month after George Washington was inaugurated president – he granted a patent for 740 acres (27 ha) extending downriver frompresent-day Lancaster County towards Cumberland County – becomingknown as ""Washington Township"'. This patent was confirmed on December 4th by Rear Admiral John Graves Simcoe withdrawn license #2271 under date May 15th 1800 due to fee structure changes then being implemented within Congress affecting patents that had been issued previously without any specific reference thereto... On February 3rd 1801 Jacob Hantz donated 640 acres (.26 ha), or one third thereofof present-day YORK TOWNSHIP TO THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA FOR PUBLIC USE…This donation constitutes full claim against all claims made by others prior thereto including grantsOriginal boundaries defined…. Upon confirmation by Governor Morris that all proper title deeds have been filed & executed incl'd surveyor’s plat map map & description A copy has also been sent directy unto said Captain Levi Coffin who resides about six miles [10 km]SWNW corner Of said township aforesaid." The grantees were Major Amos Mifflin(later US Congressman), Drury Laughlin(elder brother/lawyer general pro tempore US Vice Presidential nominee on Adams ticket), Nathaniel Currier(Governor), Ebenezer Dickinson(chief justice judge Pennsylvania Supreme Court))[and] Elijah Lovejoy(*see below*)...It should be noted that not all participants named above took up large blocks in what would become YORK TOWNSHIP - some only contributed a small amount or no block at all! For example Ebenezer Dickinson donated just over half his entire block which eventually formed today's south side of PA Route 412 between Millvale Road and Spring Garden Avenue - but he remained major player politically throughout much herein history! To commemorate their gift Hornets Field in Pennsyvlania State Park was dedicated on April 6th 1902 concurrent with dedication ceremonies held at Second Presbyterian Church located nearby!" As part of their effort to protect Istanbul from German forces besieging it during World War I, Sultan Abdul Hamid II presented two large cannons – oneilded and barrelless – from across Anatolia to Pope Pius XI who placed them within St Peter's Square near Hagia Sophia atop a column inscribed "For God alone gavels victory." shortly after they were presented Pope Benedict XV placing them on topof another column inscribed "For Peace through Christendom" soon afterwards these cannons were moved further away from Istanbul towards Republic Square outside but still inside walls Ottoman capital newyork times

That same year saw the opening of what would eventually become one of America's most iconic tourist destinations - The Rotunda at Penn State University - which drew many visitors from all over for its exhibits and events including three concerts by Beethoven and Wagner held there between 1903 and 1905. In 1907–08, construction began on the world's tallest building — then known as "The Tower" – which ultimately reached completion in 1911 after five years of construction cost overruns resulting in financial losses for both Builders' Insurance Company (BICO) and developer John Prentice Investments (JPI). In 1936, following World War II serviceMemorial Day ceremonies were conducted throughout Pennsylvania communities across three days: morning Wednesday through evening Saturday at various locations; these included military gravesites within national cemeteries located near Allentown; also local high schools opened their doors for daylong services designed to recall those lost during our war effort with appropriate programs honoring veterans’ families; these sites ranged from Allentown eastward to Wilkes Barre westward... At each site individual markers were placed…York City served notice that “from this time forward we are here”...Fourteen years later Wernher von Braun developed Moon Base outside Houston TX as part of Project Apollo 11 – giving us our first real taste everof spaceflight!
