The York coast guard gift history goes back to at least 1878. The first Coast Guard Station was established in York in that year, and the present day Coast Guard station was built on the same site in 1922. The Coast Guard is responsible for both law enforcement and public safety on the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border, as well as patrolling the Great Lakes region. York is a city in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 765 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of York County. The original name of York was "Aliquippa", meaning "place where water flowed abundantly." In 1794, after the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War and George Washington's victory over British forces at Yorktown, York was incorporated as a city by an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. York was founded by English colonists in 1794 as Aliquippa (pronounced al-EE-kwuh-pee). The original site for present-day York were two forks in the Susquehanna River – one near what is now downtown and another near today's Penn Station. Aliquippa grew quickly due to its location and good soil, and in 1800 it had a population of 10,000 people. As part of Lancaster County, Aliquippa became part of Philadelphia until 1801 when it seceded to form its own independent municipality. By 1814, however, Aliquippa had shrunk to 2,500 residents because much of Lancaster County had been annexed by Philadelphia into Township Park. In 1827, Lancaster County acquired all but 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) of East Branch Susquehanna River from Pittsburgh for $10 per acre (0.40 hectares). This acquisition made possible construction of what is now known as Easton Dam which formed the eastern border of modern York City proper and provided irrigation for many farms in central and southern YORK COUNTY

York, Pennsylvania is a small town in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. York has been ruled by successive Dutch and British governments since 1683. The town was named for York in England. The first European settlers arrived in 1757 and began to build homes around what is now the downtown core of Yorktown Heights. In 1814, following the Battle of Gettysburg and the Mexican–American War, Yorktown Heights became a U.S. military post known as Fort McAllister after General George Washington's flagship ship USS "McAllister" anchored there during the war effort. In 1831, Township No 1 formed from parts of Cumberland Township when that township was broken up into multiple blocks due to boundary changes caused by Pennsylvanian Senator John Patterson's attempt to gain wider electoral support for his gubernatorial campaign against President Andrew Jackson (the original boundaries had been set by James Wilson). The main thoroughfare throughpresent-day Yorktown Heights still bears Patterson's name: John Fenton Pike (originally called State Road 8). When PA statehood was granted to Pennsylvania in 1787, portions of present-day YORK were part of Cumberland Township which also included Monongahela and Clearfield Counties east of what is now Squirrel Hill and west of where Beaver Valley lies today; these counties would become part of Westmoreland County when that county was created from all but a tiny sliver of Cumberland Township on July 1st 1837. After William Penn died without issue in 1794, his trustees decided that all lands east or southward thereof should go to his grandson Benjamin Franklin who would rule them as an artificial province within New Jersey under charter granted by Queen Anne II on October 15th 1794; this area then comprised much present-day YORK Townships Nos 2 & 3 along with adjacent areas including Monongahela County (including what is today Squirrel Hill) west side north side and northeast corner east side off Main Street between Springdale Avenue & Northumberland Avenue - forming what are now central business districts including Downtown Pittsburgh proper - while Ansonia Borough withinMonongahela County formed overmuchwhatisnowDowntownAnsoniaandoverallwestsidenorthsideandnortheastcornersouthsideofMainStreetbetweenSpringdaleAvenue&NorthumberlandAvenue - formingwhatarenowsouthwestern borderzonesofthePittsburgh Metropolitan Area
York was once a thriving and powerful city in Pennsylvania. The area now known as York was first settled by the Algonquians in the late 18th century, and became an important cultural center of the region. York was host to a number of events during the 1800s, including the Pennsylvanian Constitutional Convention in 1809, and the American Revolution in 1776. After its incorporation into Pennsylvania in 1793, York saw some growth and development, but eventually fell victim to economic decline and social unrest. In 1830, York merged with neighboring town of Lancaster to form the new city of Lancaster. However, this merger also failed to improve local economy or provide stable government within the city limits. By 1840, York had lost much of its importance as a commercial center due to inflationary prices and various other factors. In 1847, Lancaster formally incorporated as an independent city proper with its own police department and mayor. This move solidified Lancaster's status as one of Pennsylvania's most important cities beyond its borders.
