When the United States Air Force was established in 1947, it had only a few jets. But within two years, the USAF had a squadron of Boeing 707s and Douglas DC-3s. The USAF's firsttrue bomber force was created in 1951 when Republic P-47 Warthog fighters were transferred from the Army to the USAF. The early jet era saw an increase in gift giving by members of the USAF. In 1952, General Curtis LeMay gave a gift of five Boeing 727 airliners to be used as bombers for USAAF operations over Europe. In 1954, General Hoyt S. Vandenberg presented a gift of four Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft to the USAF. In 1957, General George C. Marshall presented a gift of eight McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom II fighters to the USAF. This was followed by gifts of fourteen more McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantoms in 1960 and 1966 respectively - making McDonnell Douglas one of America's most prolific givers of military aircraft during this time period! York, Pennsylvania is a small town located in York County, Pennsylvania. The population was 2,867 at the 2010 census. It is the anchor of the York-Beaverdam Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now York were Jesuit missionaries from France in 1639. Frère François de Sales visited the area in 1646 and named it for St. John's Abbey on the Fords of Hadrian near Rome. In 1701, George Washington led an expedition through Youghiogheny Valley that passed through York on its way to Fort Duquesne and then across the Alleghanies to Pittsburgh. On September 25, 1754, British General John Forbes killed more than 200 American Indians at Battle of Yellow Tavern (now Beaverdam) while engaged in an attempt to cross the Monongahela River into Canada by this route. York was chartered as a borough on November 12, 1814 by act of Congress under authority given by Act ratified December 3rd of that year which granted lands east of Allegheny Mountains "to be laid out and improved as a Township or Borough within this Commonwealth". On November 15th of that year it was given a charter from Governor Andrew Johnson which provided for "the erection of Churches...the paying off...of Debts..." On May 5th 1861 York got its own train station when it became part of Philadelphia and Reading Railroad system which also included Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Thornburg PA In 1920, with Steel production skyrocketing due to World War I demand for munitions etc., many people moved into town seeking jobs in mills and factories but few if any developed businesses downtown because there wasn't enough space or money available . So much so that even today there are only a handful restaurants and cafes downtown whereas once upon a time there were many high-end shops such as Tiffany's But things started to change after deregulation during the 1990s when entrepreneur Dick Easterbrook bought several blocks northward along Center Street between Fifth Avenue and Market Streets He immediately began redeveloping some old warehouses into offices, condos and other uses - creating one of Philly's most innovative urban redevelopment projects ever! York was founded in 1763 by colonists from Pennsylvania. The city was named after York County, which at the time included what is now Pennsylvania. The population of York increased rapidly during the 19th century, reaching 114,000 by 1800. However, due to increasing trade with Canada and other states, industry began to decline around the turn of the 20th century. Today, York remains a small city with a population of just over 15,000 people. The history of York begins with two groups of settlers: those who came from northern England and those who came from southern Scotland. Many Scots-born colonists arrived in search of land that had been opened up by British rule since the late 18th century. Many Scots also settled in eastern Pennsylvania because that region was prospective for rich minerals and forests. By 1763, most English-born settlers had departed for similar reasons or were unable to find suitable land south of Philadelphia. In 1787, when Pennsylvanian James Kempton became President of the United States, he recommended that America become an independent country with its own government separate from Great Britain. Although many Americans opposed independence at first (particularly those living in New England), Kempton's recommendation soon won backing among some factions within society as well as politicians on both sidesofthe aisle. On July 4, 1787, George Washington formalized independence by proclamation while staying at Valley Forge barracks in nearby West Point; this event marks one significant step toward eventual U.S.-Canada relations (albeit indirectly). Although there were initially few efforts made to settle areas east of Philadelphia into which new immigrants could move quickly – such as what is now Bucks County – settlement proceeded slowly due to financial considerations and problems associated with transportation infrastructure at that time (eastern Pennsylvania would not become fully rural until much later). In fact, it wasn't until after American forces captured Quebec City during the War for Independence in 1812 that large numbers of Britishers began migrating eastward into lands newly open to settlement; this happened primarily among men employed on military campaigns across North America.(1) Most early settlements were located along major river valleys such as Susquehanna River or Monongahela River; these locations offered easy access to goods carried downriver by travelers and supported growing agriculture and commerce throughout much of Eastern PA during this era.(2) However, over time settlements grew more scattered as farmers desired more distantaccess to markets containing their product(s).
