That same year, prohibition began to take hold in America and J & B Coffee decided to close their stores all together because they could not operate under the new laws. By 1935, prohibition had ended and J &B Coffee reopened their stores as independent businesses once more. But even after prohibition ended, smallbatch coffee continued to be popular throughout the 1940s and 50s due to two factors: 1) advancements in technology that allowed for larger production runs; 2) an increased focus on quality over quantity when it came to coffee beans. Yeadon is located on the Susquehanna River and is home to a large steel plant operated by Teck Resources. The first settlement in what would become Yeadon was founded in 1799 by Loyalists from North Carolina. In 1802, George Washington visited Yeadon and observed that it had "a good market for goods brought overlanders". The mill complex which now stands was built in 1857 by William Prentice and became one of the largest mills in eastern Pennsylvania. The mill closed its doors in 1978 but has been restored and currently employs about 100 people. In 1927, Chrysler Corporation built a factory here to produce ice cream for its outlets throughout western Pennsylvania; however, operations ceased after only two years due to rink lag caused by cold weather during wintertime and low sales during summertime. Today, the property includes an adjacent park with a playground, basketball court, three tennis courts (two of which are fully equipped), as well as a football field used for practices by local teams including the Steelers/Eagles! The reason why Yeadon is so important within Pennsylvania history is that it served as both a capital city during several key moments within our state's history including: when Pennsylvanian James Ketchum became governor in 1792; when President George Washington arrived at Mount Vernon on May 8th, 1796; when Pennsylvania seceded from Maryland on January 16th 1861; when General Robert Ewell invaded Gettysburg on July 4th 1863 - all while located just outside of town limits! Additionally, government services were conducted from Yeadon throughout these events which helped keep things moving along smoothly for locals and their families back then (e.g., during Ketchum's governorship efforts), etc...
