As coffee beans grow and mature, they left their mark on the industry. One of the first artisanal coffee roasters in the United States was located in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company was founded by two Dutchmen, Cornelius van der Meer and Joris van der Sloot in 1884. They roasted quality Arabica beans which were sold throughout the northeastern United States. By 1912, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf had moved to its current location in downtown Yeadon. The company continued to thrive until World War II when it became a casualty of the war effort. Many of its employees were killed or captured; however, Van der Meer’s son-in-law, Harry Weisse maintained control over Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf until his death in 1961. Weisse is considered to be one of America’s leading coffee brewers and continue to make quality cups of coffee today as part of their own small brand called “Weisse Bros.」 In 1984, Chocolate Factory opened up shop just down the street from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf with delicious cupcakes that are still enjoyed today!

As the oldest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Yeadon has a rich coffee history dating back to 1795. In that year, John Fetterman, who was then a farmer and later a lumberjack, started roasting coffee beans on his property. The first shop in Yeadon was built in 1834 by Elias Howe. Coffee began to be sold commercially in Yeadon by 1876. By 1902, there were six stores selling coffee in town. In 1925, J.C. Penney opened his first store in town and soon became one of the largest coffee retailers in Pennsylvania with locations throughout the state and beyond. Today, there are over 20 businesses selling artisan coffee including cafes, restaurants, and small grocery stores throughout Yeadon. Yeadon is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2000 census. Yeadon is part of the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Yeadon was first settled by German immigrants in the late 17th century. In 1824, Robert Smith founded the town of Easton on land he had purchased from John Keyes and others in what is now Monmouth County. The community grew rapidly due to its location near the Susquehanna River and its access to transportation through Routes 471 and 284. During World War II, Yeadon became an important military base for Sherman's army as it served as a supply depot for units advancing into Maryland and Pennsylvania. After the war ended, most of the manufacturing businesses closed down but some residents kept their homes and started new businesses such as cheese manufacturers Belleford & Sons Inc., dyers Bethlehem Steel Co., saddlers Hanover Manufacturing Company (later known as Citizens Hosiery), brewer Pfeiffer Brewing Company (later Anheuser-Busch Brewery), post office clerks National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) before it was discontinued in 1972 by then-Governor Tom Ridge. In recent years, many small businesses have reopened in Yeadon including several Ribbit's Pizza locations along with numerous other locally owned stores and restaurants. As more people move into this vibrant community located just east of Allentown on Route 11A/US 12a close to major highways I-95 and I-78, there has been great growth potential for store fronts along main streets with names such as "Resurrection Street" or "Citizen's Square." With all these new businesses opening up in recently vacated storefronts throughout townspeople are again starting old businesses like blacksmithing Donelly Forge & Smelter which operated from 1951 until 2002; hardware store Dennison Hardware since 1984; gristmill Killian Mill since 1991; bakery Sweet Briar Bake Shop since 1998; cupcake shop Lily’s Cupcakes since 2006; flower shop Sprouts Floral Center since 2009; pet cemetery Cuttler Park Cemetery since 2013 Yeadon is one of two townships within Lehigh County following tradition while other towns withinLehigh County were consolidated into Carbon Township during 2001 referendum vote ensuring equal representation among township leaders whendecisions affecting those communities are made statewide by Commonwealth Planning Commission - see below As per Township Committee Decision No 2 dated 08/09/2018: According to US Census Bureau Population Estimates 3015 males resided here while 3005 females did so +/- 10%. As per master plan application filed on 05/31/2020 shown below: According to current zoning regulations set forth by building Inspector Daniel Saylor dated 07/20/2020: If approved under said zoning regulations currently existing herein...the proposed development would consist of 865 residences buildings with ground floor retail space typical for an urban core shopping mall type environment...This proposal does not meet meeting requirements for single family dwellings which include bedrooms having no less than three bathrooms each(4 if multi story)... 714 feet frontage on Willow Street would be required providing future expansion potential... according to Master Planapplication filed on 07/20/2020: Based upon information obtained from citizens who live or work in this Township they generally support plans submitted by developers proposing mixed use residential buildings with ground floor commercial facilities adjacent thereto including residences aboveground...In view of present trends over time it may be necessary to rezone this property accordingly should approval be granted given increased demand anticipated resulting from continuing economic development

In 1824, when Yeadon became part of Philadelphia, it had a population of just over 100 people. By 1870, however, it had grown to more than 1,000 residents. The town's early economy was based mainly on agriculture and fishing. However, after World War IIYeadon began to develop into a municipality with its own government and services. In 1970, Yeadon merged with the neighboring township of Camden to form the City ofPhiladelphia.
