Wyomissing is a small community in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,808 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Wyomissing was named for an Englishman who came to the area in 1824 and claimed land on which he built a cabin. The first settlers in Wyomissing were German immigrants who arrived in 1829. They founded a Lutheran church and started a school. In 1868, the town's first store was opened by John Pimm and others. The town grew rapidly during the Civil War and developed into a center for shipping cotton and other goods from mills in nearby Schuylkill County. When Pennsylvania became an Independent State in 1865, Wyomissing became its capital city. In 1916, Wyomissing voters passed a resolution recognizing World War I veteran John Fenton as their namesake. Fenton had served as captain of Company K (5th Battalion) 3rd Regiment U S Infantry during World War I and later served as mayor of Reading, Pennsylvania from 1925 to 1929.

Wyomissing is a borough in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Wyomissing Township was Nicholas Kline who came from New York in 1784 and homesteaded on the east side of course 16 near where the current town line meets Beaver Creek. In 1802, John Tredwell settled in what is now Wyomissing Township and erected a log cabin on Black Elk Road which he named "Trenton". A store was built on Trenton Avenue by George Muhlenberg in 1814. The first post office opened on December 4th, 1818 under the name of "Harrisonburg". In 1820, Daniel Boone purchased land east of present-day Parkersburg from Benjamin Franklin for $1,500 and platted it as the village of Wyomissing. He named it after his home state of Virginia but did not move his family to live there until much later when they were forced out byvr Indians during the American Indian Wars. The first settlers had difficulties getting water to their small settlement due to high mountains Toepe Hill and White Sulphur Springs just north of present day Wyomissing. They dug wells and developed agriculture before finally getting a steamboat connection with Pittsburgh allowing them to bring goods downriver to market. A post office called "Beaver Falls" was established at Wyomissing in 1868; it closed due to lack of mail traffic two years later. However, because this community lay along Route 6 (now known as US 1), traders stopped by regularly to trade goods with residents along this route including fur traders such as David Thompson who also lived close by at Big Spring House which still stands today across Route 6 from WyOMISSING! Moses Brown set up a sawmill around 1840s while working for John Dennison Associates lumberyard located betweenpresent-day Parkersburg and Russelltown limits south west of Beaver Dam creek . Brown’s mill operated until about 1860 when navigation made it necessary for him to build an overshot mill after borrowing money from friends back home safekeeping his lumber during low tide times.. By 1870 more than twenty mills dotted Buckskin Run gorgeously countryside providing employment for many people during that time period especially men engaged in farming woolen fabrics laces & corsets etc…. By 1910 there were only four remaining businesses active within our boundaries making Beaver Counties one very industrialized Area………..
