Prior to 1861, all firearms were made in England or France. From 1861 until 1865, Mr. Charles Wistar operated a gunsmith shop on Seventh Street between High and Low Streets near the present day intersection of Center Avenue and Seventh Street NW.). Mr . Wistar manufactured revolvers (1863-1865), shotguns (1864-1868), pistols (1867-1875) as well as artillery pieces including cannons ( 1862). At this time, handguns were not common among civilians so there was not much market for these types of guns outside of military use at that time

Wyomissing was first settled by Germans in 1776 and named for Johannes (Johannes) Wyomisser who had been born in Saxony in 1695. In 1802 the territory of what is now Wyomissing was erected from parts of Monongahela and Lycoming counties by act of Congress as a result of the Second Treaty of Paris between Great Britain and France following the American Revolution. The Township of Wyomissing was organized on November 3, 1836, from parts of Northampton Township and Westmoreland Township. On January 1st 1874, it became a Borough with its own townhall building and police department. On May 12th 1934, it merged into Scranton–Wilkes-Barre with a population increase to over 2,000 residents. Wyomissing has several professional sports teams that play in local leagues across the United States: The Wyomissing Americans (Tennis), the York Panthers (Hockey), the Lackawanna Steelers (American football), and remains an important center for music education within central Pennsylvania even after nearly 150 years since its founding as one small community bandstand located off Route 422 near present day Wyoming Park Elementary School
