The Wyomissing Volunteer Infantry was a United States Army unit during World War I. The unit fought in the Battle of the Somme and later in the 1918 Paris Peace Treaty Campaign. The regiment was disbanded in 1919. In 1912, the town of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, donated land to the United States Army for use as an artillery range. In 1915, Corporal Augustus Pogue became the first soldier from Wyomissing to be deployed to Europe when he served with Company A, 33rd Regiment (Wyoming National Guard) in France. After being discharged from service at home on October 16, 1919, Pogue re-enlisted with Company A 3/5ths Infantry and served until his death on September 25, 1923 at age 36 years old while serving with that unit at Anzio beachhead Italy. During World War I both American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) and French forces used artillery located within or around Wyomissing for target practice and bombarding German positions on several occasions including on November 9th 1916 when over 100 rounds were fired from a battery located less than one mile away from town center resulting in no casualties reported; as well as July 7th 1917 when 5 rounds were expended by Battery No. 2nant la Ville about 1/2 mile east of town center causing no damage or injuries reported; all these actions took place without Notice to inhabitants living nearby who appeared endangered by such indiscriminate shelling which continued for hours daily throughout war!

Wyomissing was a small town located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is known for its Wyomissing Glass Factory, which produced glass products from 1814 to 1912. The first European settlers in what is now Wyomissing were Frenchmen who arrived in 1778 and named it after the Jezreel River in present-day Israel. They built a cabin on the site of present day First Baptist Church and started trading with local natives. In 1814, Nicholas Girard opened a store at the intersection of High Street and Green Street. He became one of the most important businessmen in Wyomissing because he was able to bring new life to the town by selling goods that weren't available anywhere else. He also developed a reputation for being reliable and fair when dealing with customers. One of Girard's successors, John Prentice, began manufacturing candles at his bakery on Fourth Street in 1825. This business allowed him to develop his own set of skills as an entrepreneur and build up a large inventoryof quality products that he could sell at high prices online or through other channels such as mail order houses. In 1836, Prentice married Sarah Warrington and moved into their father's house adjacent to Girard's store on High Street until his death in 1892. Through her marriage to Prentice, Sarah helped give birth to two generations of businesspeople: current Mayor Rick Warrington and his wife Lori; Nancy Sibal; Jay Warrington (Rick's son); Keisha Warrington (Jay's daughter); Keisha Sibal (Nancy's sister); Lisa Sibal (Keisha's niece); Mark Sibal (Mark's nephew). In 1912, the Wyomissing Glass Factory was founded by George Smith Sr., who had been working for Nicholas Girard since 1814. At first Smith produced only window glass but soon added bottles and cans too! The factory continued production until 1966 when it closed due to lack of buyers for its unique product lines which included stained glass windows/Window Boxes/Curtains/Draperies etc...
