The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History is a history of the USAF's gift program that has given presents to friends and family across the globe. The USAF gifts program began in 1947, when U.S. Air Forces commander General Curtis LeMay commissioned the creation of a special unit to give away goods as part of hisarket campaign called Operation Santa Claus. By 1951,Operation Christmas Tree had become an annual tradition with more than 1 million items given away from military stores across the country. In 1987, the USAF gave its first air-to-air missile system to Egypt during President Reagan's visit there. In 1992, U2 Flight 912 became the first aircraft to fly over Baghdad during Operation Desert Storm; this was also U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers' final flight for American Airlines. In 1995, Commander (later Admiral) Glen Wilson presented a Boeing 727 Aircraft Carrierload Package (ACP) containing three F-15C fighter jets and three E-3A airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) aircraft to Yemen during President Saleh's visit there. Also in 1995, two Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules airlifters were delivered as gifts to Uganda and Zambia respectively; these planes are used by both countries for training purposes. Wilkinsburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,403 at the 2010 census. Wilkinsburg is part of the Allentown–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Clearfield County were traders and missionaries from England in the late 17th century. One such missionary was John Wilkinson who traveled through this area in 1683. Wilkinson's group built a trading post and fort on the Schuylkill River near present-day Wilkinsburg. The town of West Reading was founded by settlers from nearby Berks County in 1796, and it became an incorporated settlement in 1802. The first school in Clearfield County was established in 1814 by Rev. Drury and Mr. Parkhurst as "West Reading Academy." It met frequently at various locations until 1824 when it moved to its current location at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Market Street where it remains today (the building still stands). In 1827, Philadelphia businessman Solomon Capron donated land on which would become Wilkinsburg Township; his donation allowed for the township's initial erection into a civil township on March 14, 1830 under Pennsylvania law then under revision. In 1911, entrepreneur George Patton donated land east of his original business interests to be used for citrus groves; this property would later become known as Patton Park™ development adjacent to Interstate 76exit 219 south of Pittsburgh proper. After World War II ended hostilities among Allied nations with Korea taking center stage as hostilities intensified between North and South Korea, Patton subdivided his holdings into two tracts—Patton Park† east of I-76 exit 219″ † north of I-76 exit 219—and sold one parcel† back to George Patton¶ after receiving US Congressional notification that he had made an undeclared gift worth $650 million dollars*! When word got out about this deal officials closed off Patton Park† sources/exits** after determining that there were no other buyers interested in purchasing these parcels”; see map below: From here on forward development occurred primarily within eastern Clearfield Township with production sites located along I-276 exitingumerous small communities including Sunbury Heights*** (now Pittston), Mifflin Hill*** (later Springdale), Scranton/WilkesBarre*, Meadville*. Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania was founded in 1798 by George Washington and his army. The town became a center for trade and commerce, and its economy grew thanks to the production of flour, lumber, tobacco, potatoes, eggs, apples, cheese and other goods. In 1814 the town received a charter from the Province of Pennsylvania. Wilkinsburg rapidly developed into an important cultural center due to its many churches and religious services as well as its growing manufacturing base. The town also opened its first school in 1815. during the 19th century Wilkinsburg became known for its cheese industry which produced some of the best-selling brands in America including Philadelphia cream cheese and Roquefort sauce.
The Pennsylvania Air National Guard's 65th Airlift Wing deployed a Generous Air Force Gift to the residents of Wilkinsburg, PA on Saturday. The gift was a shipment of military surplus clothes and equipment from the wing's store in Erie, PA. The gift was delivered by an F-15E Strike Eagle from the 65th Airlift Wing's 2nd Squadron. The aircraft flew over the town for about an hour, taking off and landing at two different airfields in Wilkinsburg to drop off the donated goods. Residents enjoyed using the new clothes and equipment for their daily tasks, such as laundry and cooking. Some even set up shop in their newly acquired rooms using the surplus clothing and gear.
