A Brief History of Tactical Coffee in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania On January 1, 1796, General George Washington and his army set out from Fredericksburg on their march to Yorktown. Along the way they stopped at a small town called Wilkes Barre. The town was then home to about fifty citizens. While at the town, General Washington and his troops had their first cup of coffee. They were so pleased with the coffee that they ordered more of it. This cup is considered to be the beginning of the coffee industry in America. Shortly after this event, General Washington’s army moved on and arrived at Yorktown on January 9th. There they celebrated New Year’s Day with a joint dinner at which coffee was also served. It was during this time that people started to realize how great coffee could taste and how valuable it was for soldiers to have access to it. After dinner, General Washington went into another room where he made some new decrees regarding war policy and military strategy. The next day he convened a meeting of his generals in order to discuss these new policies and strategies with them. During this meeting, Captain John Mitchell gave us our first cup of tactical coffee! This event is generally considered as the beginning of the world’s oldest continuously run café! Aftermath of victory over British forces in Battle of Saratoga resulted in large influx of refugees into America which created an opportunity for North American businesses such as Timothy Ford & Sons (later Tim Hortons) Ltd., Jiffy Lube Company (later Lowe’s), Oldsmobile Corporation (later Chrysler), Procter & Gamble Company (later Gillette) among others based in Philadelphia to start selling goods related directly or indirectly to wartime needs such as food supplies, clothing etc., most notably chocolate barsWar production led businesspeople seeking opportunities outside their home countries begin establishing companies manufacturing munitions plants like Bethlehem Steel Corporation (now Arco) or textiles firms like Curtiss-Winchester Ammunition Plant No 8 near Scranton by 1947

Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,847 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Lackawanna County. The first people to live in Wilkes Barre were the Lenape Native Americans. The town's name comes from a word meaning "a place where there are many trees." In 1795, George Washington and his army fought during the American Revolutionary War at Battle of Bunker Hill in nearby Saratoga Springs. While General Howe's army retreated back into Manhattan after suffering heavy losses, Washington's troops advanced upstate to take position on Long Island Sound near present-day Scranton. Here they built Fort McAllister to resist British attack and store food for their winter quarters. In 1834, John Dickinson proposed that Wilkes be made the administrative center of what would become Lackawanna County because its location – close to Philadelphia – made it one of the most important centers in America for transportation and trade. The idea was accepted by both Pennsylvania officials and residents and on July 1, 1835,Wilkes became an incorporated borough with a population of only 100 people when Philadelphia annexed it as part of advances towards urbanization that were being made throughout America at this time. On November 2nd 1836 PA House passed an act creating Bradford Township which included parts of what is now Scranton Borough and all but 3 blocks of what is now downtown Wilkes Barre; these changes followed several years during which much business took place out west across Turtle Creek Bridge into Bradford Township before finally returning to central Wilkes Barre in 1840-1841 under new leadership including James Patton who had come from England as part as part of efforts by then Mayor John Fenton (the brother-in-law/son-in-law of Samuel Adams) to revive commerce within central Lackawanna County following declines occasioned by consolidation with adjacent counties (including Erie). As increased commercial activity developed along Delaware Avenue between Center Street and Delaware Place beginning about 1830 this area came to be known as City Square or simply Downtown due largely to its wharves connecting those two streets having been founded about that time by Captain George Stephenson who operated one such wharf on Water Street near modern day Independence Hall with plans for further development extending downriver into what is today Northumberland Township also founded about 1830 but not yet called Downtown since land southward extended beyond current day Penn Station.) During this period there were also numerous residences constructed along Delaware Avenue including some still standing today: One such building located just east side corner Broad Street between Main and York Streets remains today occupied by Bethlehem Steel Corporation’s Administration Building although alterations have occurred over time resulting in portions thereof no longer forming an uninterrupted facade facing Broad Street; another building located just north side corner Fourth Street between Market and Chestnut Streets has long been vacant although portions remain attached Inside Ministry Of Health building currently being used as office space for Department Of Community Services - Emergency Management Authority while a third structure located just east side corner ThirdStreetbetweenMarketandChurch Streetshas long been occupied by First National Bank despite alterations having occurred over time resulting in portions thereof no longer forming an uninterrupted facade facing ThirdStreet.) This period witnessed growth not only within Downtown but also along Delaware Avenue including construction possibly totaling hundreds if not thousands of housing units each providing access directly or indirectly outside Downtown through Cliffside Terrace Drive thence Allentown Road continuing southeast past present day Allentown University Hospital then turning northeast reaching ultimate ends at Manokin Road inland until unification with anthracite coal mining areas surroundingpresentdayWilkesBarre
