These stores continued to operate into the 1960s when they merged into one company called Citizens National Firearms Corporation (CNJ). In 1967, CJN merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Rand Corporation (RAND). In 1795, when James Wilson became Governor of Pennsylvania, he ordered all towns within his borders to establish local governments with specific powers such as Police Department and Fire Department etc. In 1802, when Cornwallis received news of British victory over General Howe at Saratoga Creek there were petitions from many residents asking for Wilhelmstown Township to be included within PA but no action was taken until 1812 when it was made an official part of PA In 1819-20 John Prentice built what is now known as Prentice's Brewery on Main Street which began production of beer for sale in 1825 In 1865-1868 The Western Union Telegraph Line built their wires through town In 1903-1904 US Steel Corporation set up their plants on Northumberland Avenue and Westinghouse Boulevard near where they still operate today Postal service arrived to Wilkes Barre in 1865 with mail sent from Philadelphia First school opened in 1870 called "The Ladies' School" followed by "Mr. Hinkle's Academy" before becoming "One High School" in 1875 In 1888-89 First Presbyterian Church erected (now First United Methodist) on present day Railroad Tracks south side of Main Street

Wilkes Barre was a town in western Pennsylvania and is now part of the borough of Wilkes-Barre. The first European settlers to the area arrived in 1768, when Captain John Smith and his group of three men explored what is now Northumberland County. On July 4, 1768, the first European Settlers Day, William Penn proclaimed the town of Wilkes-Barre as a proprietary borough within Lancaster County. The name "Wilkes" comes from George Washington's home village on the Susquehanna River in Virginia. The early economy of Wilkes-Barre was based on agriculture and manufacturing. In 1805, an act was passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly establishing a public school system in Western Pennsylvania. This act led to increased investment in factories and industries in the town over time. By 1828, Wilkes-Barre had become one of the largest textile towns in America due to its expertise in lacemaking, papermaking, printing, dyeing and textiles production. In 1920, during World War I (1914–18), much activity took place at Lackawanna Steel Works during WWI as it produced munitions for both Allied and Axis forces. As a result of this wartime production activity, many buildings including those at 611 Market Street were damaged or destroyed duringWWII; however they have been rebuilt since then .In addition to Lackawanna Steel Works there were also other plants such as Bethlehem Ironworks which made tanks (the world's first) for British Forces during World War II before being closed down; these facilities are also still present today with updated equipment
Wilkes Barre was founded in 1793 by General George Washington as a military post on the Susquehanna River. The town became an industrial center after the opening of the railway network in 1847. In 1919, Wilkes Barre was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
