The Coast Guard has been in operation in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania since 1915. The first coast guard station was established here in 1915. At that time, the town of Wilkes Barre only had a few hundred residents and there were no organized services provided by the government. It was not until 1917 when the first coast guard cutter, USS Lark, was stationed in the town. However, it was not until 1922 when a new Coast Guard Station, named after Rear Admiral John J. Ellis, opened here. This station served as both the primary and backup base for all of northeastern Pennsylvania including Wilkesbarre. In 1936, a new Coast Guard Station was built to take advantage ofthe increased traffic along the Delaware River due to World War II. During this time period, the Coast Guard also began providing helicopter patrols for search and rescue missions as well as providing medical services for local hospitals. The Station also became an important training ground for future coastguardsmen and women during this time period. After World War II ended, proper funding levels were put into place so that the Coast Guard could continue its operations which included providing humanitarian aid such as assisting with floods or hurricanes; conducting law enforcement; and participating in many other activities incidental to its duties! In 1968-1969 a new Headquarters Building was constructed on land adjoining current day Marine Park Drive in order to house all components of coastal patrol activity within one location! This move allowed more efficient coordination between different units and made it easier for individuals working on shoreline patrols to get information back to their headquarters faster! In 1984-1985 another Headquarters Building (known today as Westport)was construct ed adjacent to present day Girdler Park Drive approximately two miles north of downtown Wilkes Barr e! This building housed operational areas such as Administration & Finance; Patrol Operations; Research Laboratory; Command Post & Control Center; barracks/batters Laird House (now known as North Point); Lifeboat Department; Firefighters’ Training School; Harbor Patrol Unit 1 & 2 (now known as HazMat team 1 & 2); Maritime Enforcement Unit 3 (now known from US Customs officials who are stationed at Naval Base Wharf #3 across harbor); Specialty Units: Search And Rescue - EMTs/Lamar County Sheriff’s Dept.; Hazardous Materials Response Team - State Police Crime Scene Investigators.; Coastalwatch - Federal Emergency Management Agency HAZMAT teams.; Asbestos Abatement Team - EPAcible Cleanup Crews.; Fleet Services Group - Merchant Marines Auxiliary (); Disabled Veteran Affairs Program support.). In addition to their regular duties performed by members of the Coast Guard Service they are also frequently called upon by local businesses or agencies who may need assistance during special events or emergencies such as fires or protests! For example, on 9/11/2001 several members of the Coast Guard responded quickly and effectively to respond to reports of an airplane down near New York City’s Upper East Side!!! After completing initial investigation efforts they directed response efforts towards Tower Two where firefighters were fighting a fire!!! Additionally members have been called out numerous times throughout natural disasters like flash flooding or earthquakes!! Some interesting Tidbits about our history include: - On 12/5/2002 three coast guard officers were killed while responding To A Massive Storm Over Texas - On 5/24/2008 five officers from KCGR located 4 missing persons on Long Island - On 10/1st 2010 four Officers died after being struck By A Motorcycle While ON Duty

The town was founded in 1796 by Captain John Wilkes and his wife Sarah. They named their settlement after one of the five British colonies that made up North America. The townspeople built a small wooden fort to protect their new community from Native Americans. The fort was replaced in 1814 by a larger stone structure which still stands today. In 1825, Captain John Wilkes donated land to the town for development, which led to its growth as an agricultural center during the 19th century. In 1881, Captain John Wilkes died and bequeathed his entire estate to the township. The estate included 5 acres of land south of the original fortification line, which became known as "John Wilkes Park." This section of town remains largely unchanged since Captains John's time - it features recreational activities such as baseball and basketball fields, as well as several stores and homes currently used for offices or housing purposes. Today, Wilkes Barre is home to a number of businesses including two banks (one downtown), two churches (one Presbyterian/Anglican, one Methodist), three public schools (grades K-8), three private schools (one high school), four restaurants/bars/cafés, ten newsstands/nightclubs/, eleven farms/livestock production companies/, six manufacturing concerns/, and seven residences used for both personal use and business purposes.

The town also gained notoriety for its production of whiskey which helped make it one of America's leading wine-producing towns during the antebellum period. In 1851, Wilkes Barre was incorporated as a city with a population of 15,000 people. It experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century thanks to heavy industry such as papermaking and transportation
