The United States Air Force has a rich history dating back to World War I. The USAF was founded in 1947 as the United States Armed Forces Aeronautical and Space Command. It was renamed the USAF in 1958, after the merger of the US Army's Air Service and Navy's District of Columbia Aeronautical Division. In 1969, the USAF became an independent service with its own headquarters and operational commands headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. The USAF is one of five military services that make up the United Nations Security Council. The first aerial bombardment campaign against Japan took place on December 7, 1941 with Operation Neptune's Spear, which aimed to damage Japanese airfields and destroy key transportation systems over Tokyo Bay. Aerial bombardment continued during World War II with strategic bombings such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki; however, these attacks were limited to areas near Japan rather than hitting major cities like Tokyo or Osaka. Aerial bombing also occurred during Korean War, Vietnam War, and Gulf War based on national security needs at the time. After World War II ended, tactical flying operations were transferred from American squadrons to RAF squadrons under RAF Bomber Command; bomber groups were redesignated wings (or groups) following their conversion from fighter aircraft into bombers; Tactical Missile Groups (TMGs) were formed for area bombing using ballistic missiles; Tactical Reconnaissance Groupes (TRGs) provided reconnaissance support for ground forces by flying low over battlefields); NightAir Defense Battle organizations flew interception missions over enemy targets during night hours]; As combat technology improved so too did air power capability within NATO member nations'. In 1957 America moved its Pacific Fleet from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor Naval Base Hawaii; this event signaled a new era of American naval presence in Asia Minor (including Turkey). On May 15th 1957 Lockheed Aircraft Corporation received an order for two F-4 Phantom Jets for Turkish Air Force Service Squadron No 2 at Adana AirportTurkey,. After engineering development testing was conducted by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation’s proving ground at Marietta Georgia it was delivered to Turkish Air Force squadron on October 10th 1959 as F-4E/N5HG2 #10AJQ.. This marked Lockheed’s first jet fighter delivery outside North America since WWII.. After initial configuration trials it went into commissioning status aboard TAFSporadic air patrols between Atatürk International Airportand Konya airport beginning on November 17th 1959 whenTurkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited America.. A total of twelve F-4Es/Ns served as Turkish Air Force Squadron No 2 until they disbanded on May 1st 1961 due to budgetary constraints associated with funding changes within NATO caused by Suez Crisis tensions between Egypt and Syria .. Withdrawal of U.S Forces From Vietnam – August 25Th 1970: Effective date is August 25 th 1970 all service members who had been stationed in South Vietnam prior to this date are recalled home without pay or other benefits while those remaining will be deployed elsewhere in Southeast Asia Commander First AFWAG assumed command…. All previously assigned tactical aviation units have been reassigned… effective dates are listed BELOW….. - Troop Carrier Wing abandonment – September 9 th 1967 all stocks have been depleted…. - Marine Helicopter detachment withdrawal – January 3 rd 1968 no helicopters available…. - Seymour Johnson Island abandonment – March 20 th 1969 most personnel evacuated……... - Republic Of Korea Air National Guard withdrawal – July 5 th 1971 most units withdrawn….. - Thailand Thai Airways Royal Thai Army Aviation detachment withdrawal effective date is September 30th 1971……………….. Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania is a town in Northampton County, Pennsylvania and the seat of Northampton County government. As of the 2010 census, the population was 61,567. The name Wilkes Barre is derived from John Wilkes who settled in the area in 1768. The town was established on November 15, 1797 when land was purchased from George Washington for $2 per acre. In 1803, the county seat was moved to nearby Pittston and Wilkes-Barre became a separate borough. On March 14, 1829, Wilkes-Barre incorporated as a village. The charter granted by Governor John Pemberton stated that “no person shall be taxed more than half an acre” so development proceeded slowly until railroads arrived in the late 19th century which stimulated economic growth. By 1910 there were over 100 businesses with 2,500 residents and weekly sales reached $10 million. The first post office opened in 1807 and continued operation until it closed on October 25th of that year due to low mail volume caused by war efforts at home.
