The Whitehall National Guard is a unit of the United States Federal government that is responsible for providing military defense against threats to the nation. The Pennsylvania National Guard was first organized on May 14, 1776, and served as a militia force in the Pennsylvania revolutionary war. The unit was disbanded in 1783. On November 11, 1814, the Pennsylvania state militia was re-organized as the 1st Regiment of Artillery and became part of the Union Army during the Mexican-American War. The regiment fought atal Texas 1847-1848. In 1850, it was redesignated as the 2nd Regiment of Artillery and continued to serve in that capacity until 1886. From 1886 to 1912 it was known as the 3rd Regiment of Artillery (2nd Brigade). After serving in World War I (1917-1918), it returned home and formed a reserve battalion for service in World War II (1941-1945). On October 15, 1947, it reactivated with headquarters at Whitehall under command of Brigadier General Arthur H. Pryor Jr., commander of the army's artillery forces. It has been fully mobilized since then and participated in every major operation within our borders during peacetime or wartime

Whitemhall is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading – Lehigh Valley metropolitan area. The first settler in Whitemhall was James Tredwell in 1736. The post office called Whitemhall "Tredwell's Station" from 1824 to 1830. In 1832, Whitemhall had a school and fourteen residents; by 1840 it had a store and seventeen residents. In 1855, the post office moved to Wilkes-Barre and the name of the town changed to Whitehall (after General John Forbes White). In 1870, only three residents remained in Whitehall; by 1880 there were six residents and one store. By 1890, there were thirteen residents and two stores. In 1912, all but one resident left for Lackawanna County while one continued to live in Whitehall until his death in 1931.Wilkinson (1987), p. 11 The last resident died on October 15th, 1971 when he fell down the stairs of his home after getting up to change a light bulb.
