Gourmet Coffee History in Whitehall, Pennsylvania There is no question that Whitehall, PA has a long and storied coffee history. The city was once the center of the production of coffee beans and potters are still found today manufacturing all manner of cups, tins, bags and more. The first evidence of coffee production in Whitehall can be traced back to 1796 when Nicholas Gourdin imported some Indonesian coffee beans from Java. It wasn't until 1827 that a company known as the Dutch West India Company began to import French-grown beans. The Dutch were very interested in this new product and by 1830 they had opened a roasting house in Whitehall specifically for DutchWest India Company beans. From here on out, coffee production within the city would become quite prevalent with many companies coming and going over the years. One of these major players was George Weyand who operated a business called Weyand & Co. from 1892 until his death in 1906. At its peak, Weyand & Co. produced over 1 million pounds of coffee each year! Quite an accomplishment considering that at this time espresso only accounted for about 2% of all transactions nationwide! This level of output is truly remarkable given that at this point caffeine was still considered an infant beverage! Following Weyand's death came his son Harry Weyand Jr., who ran the business until its closure in1970s. However, it should be noted that Harry Sr.'s son Harry Jr.'s father had also run Weyand & Co., so there was definitely precedent forContinental European Coffee Companies (CEC) operating within local borders! In fact, CEC's influence can be seen throughout most aspects of town life as businesses became established within what we now know as downtown Whitehall!

Gourmet Coffee is a coffee company that has been in business since 1984. Gourmet Coffee was founded by two friends, Dan and Jay Kapp. The first location was in Whitehall, PA. The company has now grown to ten locations across the United States.
Whitehall is a small town located in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown, PA-NJ-DE-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Whitehall were the Conestoga clan who founded the village in 1792. A post office was established in 1811 and remained in operation until 1975. Whitehall's incorporation as a town occurred on December 5, 1924. The original name of the town was "Altoona". In 1892, white settlers started to arrive in what is now Monroe County and they named their new community after Lord Liverpool – Altoona being one of several localCompanies which bore his name (the others being Altoona Iron Works, Altoona Steel Company and Altoona Coal Mines). After some time it became clear that there were no Siamese twins living near by so they changed their name back to Whitehall on October 16th 1897 to make themselves more unique among their fellow Settlers. The first store opened up in 1907 just down the street from today’s courthouse which still stands today! The store was run by Mrs Neely from start to finish with her husband Mr Sweeny serving as cashier and later manager for many years! Mrs Neely also served as our first schoolteacher for about 25 years before retiring in 1964! In 2006 we added an extra classroom onto our building which will now house our extracurricular club program as well as providing much needed storage space for our growing library! The first documented purchase of coffee beans was made by an American named John Adams on December 12th, 1795. This event is generally considered to be the beginning of the modern-day coffee industry. The early pioneers of the coffee industry realized that Roasted Bean Coffee could not be sourced domestically and had to import it from various parts of the world. roasting plants were established in Europe, Africa, and Asia specifically for this purpose. It was during this time that espresso (a type of Italian espresso) began to become popular as a morning refresher before work or while enjoying a leisurely after-noon stroll through Rome's prestigious Colle Oppio district...

In the early days of coffee production, people used small-scale grinding machines that produced very fine coffee. The first espresso machine was built by Giovanni Battista Brescia in Venice in 1693.
Whitehall is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Whitehall was Nicholas Pecoraro, who arrived in 1786. There were only three families living in Whitehall when the United States government created Lackawanna County on November 1, 1787. The first post office was opened at Whitehall on December 7, 1787. The early settlers were mainly Italian immigrants from Rome and other parts of Italy. In 1801, John Fenton purchased land near present-day Whitehall and built a cabin known as Fenton's farmstead. He later moved his family to what is now Scranton and became an executive with the Bank of Pennsylvania before dying in 1859. His son John Fenton Sr., also an executive with the bank, married Rebecca Hinton and they had two children: John Hinton (1802-1864) and Rebecca Hinton Foster (1804-1868). Mrs. Fenton donated most of her estate to charity after her husband's death; it nowincludes much of present day Whitehall Township including parts of east village still used by her descendants today
Whitehall was founded in 1781 as a small village on the Allegheny River. It grew rapidly and by 1819 had a population of 1,500 residents. In 1825, Whitehall became the seat of government for the newly created U.S. District of Pennsylvania. The town continued to grow and by 1830 had a population of 5,000 people. In 1849, Whitehall was made the capital of what is now Pennsylvania.
