Gourmet Coffee History in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania began with the first coffee shop in 1892. At that time, it was a small town of about 5,000 people. The first shop was called the Central Coffee House and served local farmers and fishermen who found their morning caffeine fix from beans roasted onsite. The popularity of coffee grew rapidly over the next few decades as people increasingly turned to roasting their own beans and traveling to find the best coffee shops in different parts of the world. By 1970, there were over twenty-six Gourmet Coffee Houses scattered throughout central Pennsylvania serving unique blends of Arabica and Robusta beans from around the world. In 1992, Gourmet Coffee became a subsidiary of Keurig Incorporated which continued to grow and serve fantastic gourmet coffee products until its acquisition by Jamba Juice in 2013.

After years of growth and development, the boroughs of Easton and Northumberland were dissolved on July 1, 1974 within the current boundaries of West Mifflin. Today, many businesses and cultural institutions call West Mifflin home including The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Pittsburg State University (PSU), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), The Scripps Howard Media Company (SHM) as well as several breweries that produce local beers such as First Lady's Ale and Steel Toe IPA.
