Waynesboro is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,921 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is part of the Reading, PA-NJ-DE-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlers in Waynesboro were Dutch immigrants who arrived around 1681. By 1755, there were three stores and twenty seven homes in the town. The area now called Waynesboro was originally part of Westphalia Township and later Schuylkill Township. When Schuylkill Township was disbanded in 1846, its land became part of Berks County. In 1853, John Aikens built a cabin on Mountain Brook (now Old Mill Road) near present-day Waynesboro to provide access to this stream for his cattle and hogs. In 1865, David Kline built a small log cabin on what is now River Road just east ofpresent-day Waynesboro. This settlement became known as Kline's Landing due to its founders’ connection to that community). It wasn't until 1875 that a post office was established at the site which would remain operational until 1916. In 1898, Wm Dever founded the Waysboro Creamery which would become one of the most successful businesses in Berks County for many years; it still operates today as an agricultural products company with over 140 employees statewide . In 1906, John Fenton opened his first business – an ice cream parlor – at 15 Union Avenue in Waynesboro which would become one of the most popular local businesses until it closed down during World War II due to rationing . In 1910–11, The Waysboro Athletic Club produced its very first baseball game against Summit Coaches Association teams from Allentown and Bethlehem; both games were played at Valley Park located east of present day Kutztown (the stadium now used by Easton Indian School ). In 1912–13 Drury Building Company erected two new buildings within town limits: One called Main Street Studios which housed various arts and crafts activities while also serving as the public library; and another building known as The Record House which housed grocery store/ village hall functions with seating for up to eighty people inside while also providing space for music rehearsal . From 1918 through 1921 Bridge & Dam Construction Company erected three bridges within town limits: Two across Big Creek (now Bigelow Boulevard) - one being dedicated on October 14th 1921st when Waynesboroughedate authorized bridge construction following floods that destroyed much of rural Berks County ; and another crossing White Oak Creek - also named after Mr Bridge - between Intersection Street and Spring Garden Drive ; this bridge remained operational until 1984 when it was replaced by Route 26 .
