In 1802, Mr. & Mrs. Amos Eaton opened a school for girls on South Market Street which served many years until it burned down in 1883; however, Mrs. Eaton continued to teach until her death in 1922). In 1830, David Brown founded what would become known as Brown’s Furniture company – one of the earliest American furniture retailers – located on Court Square (now Market Square). Brown’s store became one of the most important symbols of Uniontown during its early days because he stocked a wide variety of goods including farm produce, clothing and household items such as cradle boards and china dishes." Uniontown is one of the oldest towns in Fayette County and has been settled by Europeans for over two hundred years.
