Uniontown is a small town in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,372 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown-Erie, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to set foot in Uniontown was Andrew Carnegie, who built a hotel and mill there in 1881. In 1926, Uniontown became home to the nation's first all-electric power plant. Today Uniontown features many businesses and services related to its agricultural economy including a grocery store, post office, bank branch, doctor's office and more. Uniontown was founded by Welsh settlers in 1790 as "New Haven". It became known as Uniontown after being donated by Friends of Independence Hall (FOHH). The town was incorporated on November 3rd of that year. The name may be derived from the English word "union" meaning affiliation or connection and "borough" meaning village or hamlet. During World War II, Uniontown briefly served as an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II because of the incarceration of Japanese nationals during the war years under Executive Order 9066 which stated that any person American citizens deemed enemy aliens were to be detained without trial or release until such time as they could be deported back to Japan or other points within their original countries of origin. After the end of World War II and with no evidence linking anyone associated with FOHH with any Axis sympathies following the war, most people believe that FOHH dissipated its assets soon after victory came through in 1945 - possibly due to fear that retribution would come from both sides should information get out about their activities during wartime which some felt could have negative consequences for business owners/citizens who had taken part in allied efforts during hostilities - although it’s still debated whether this dissipating activity took place purely due to financial concerns or regardless if someone knew about potential problems ahead but chose not to speak up out of fear for personal consequences later on
