As enrollment grew throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century there were several expansions or construction projects at StateCollege which included: -The enlargement of campus from 1 hectare to 5 hectares (2 acres to 12 acres) in 1903; -The construction of North Campus which housed all academic buildings east of Market Street between Washington Street and Alumni Hall in 1912; -Construction of South Campus which consisted mostly of research laboratories along Park Avenue between Broad Street and High Street in 1916; -Expansion into new markets including Erie County (1922), Montgomery County (1926), Lancaster County (1929), Westmoreland County (1933)and Lackawanna County (1945); -the opening up of student housing units such as Student Union House during World War II; -the construction or relocation/upgrading/renovation/replacing/updatingof School Administration Building during 1948–1970s including additions such as Study Halls 191st through 199th floor complete with air conditioning duringSummertime 1959 via ductwork from Administration Building basement; -. renovation project completed inside original School Administration Building exterior starting February 9TH 1968 until September 30TH 1970 resulting in expansion onto north side across Main Street from earlier south side locations providing an additional 3 floors plus underground parking garage accommodations for an additional 509 students (+509 staff members). This project cost $5 million dollars + overruns totaling $8 million dollars making it one OF THE LARGEST STATE COLLEGE REPAIRS IN HISTORY!
