In Pennsylvania, the history of fresh roasted coffee is rich and includes some of the most influential people and businesses in the industry. The first coffee bean roast was made in 1847 by Nicholas Rojo in what is now State College, PA. At that time, roasting coffee was done using an open fire method. The process began with a small amount of premium ground coffee being burned off until it created a blacksmith's forge-like heat source. After this point, additional water and air were added to create a hot liquid form that could be roasted. The first commercial roasters started appearing around 1915 when Harry Heublein opened his first grocery store in Allentown, PA. At that time, he began selling pre-packaged ground Coffee from his storeroom window. This allowed him to test new roast methods and experiment with different brewing parameters while also providing customers with high quality products at an affordable price point. In 1948, State College graduate and entrepreneur Dragan Popovic opened Popovic's Coffee Shop on Main Street in Easton Township which quickly became one of the most popular cafes in the area for its fresh roasted coffee products as well as its variety of Italian treats such as pastas and pizzas

In 1896 Southwestern PA Railroads donated land near campus for use as a training ground for engineers during World War II while other colleges were closed due to lack of donations or war efforts funds available at that time. After World War II ended development on the campus began focusing on postgraduate studies with first graduating classes having gone through1966 with expanded options for study beyond academic disciplines including law (LLM), medical assisting (MD Anderson), pharmacy(Pharmacist Assistant program), engineering (BEVEC), criminal justice (JD Morgan). On September 12th 1967 President Lyndon Johnson announced plans to merge Pennsylvanian institutions into one large comprehensive educational institution - now known as "State College" - following years of hard work by multiple presidents combined with generous gifts from individuals such as John F Kennedy, Betsy DeVos et al.. Classes first started on October 1st 1967 on what is today's Main Campus followed by expansions to both satellite campuses in Reading & Wilkes-Barre later that year giving rise to what is now known simply as "StateCollege". From here on out, fresh roasting would become an important part of Colombian Coffee history as it would play such an important role in developing this industry worldwide. State College was founded in 1795 as a small college town in the Susquehanna Valley by James Wilson and his brother, George. The school became a state-supported institution in 1825 and then the University of Pennsylvania in 1868. State College was named for the Pennsylvania General Assembly that passed a bill authorizing its establishment. The university had many famous alumni, including Benjamin Franklin and Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. In 1907, State College became an independent institution with its own Board of Trustees. It remained so until it merged with the University ofPennsylvania in 1966 to form the University of Pennsylvania System. The campus now occupies over 120 acres (49 hectares) on what were once farm fields adjacent to PA Route 11 near Centre County Courthouse Square.
