The Pottsville Marine Museum is a nonprofit, educational organization that preserves and displays maritime artifacts and memorabilia related to the Pottsville area. The museum was founded in 1984 by George Fenton and his wife, Peggy. The first items on display at the Pottsville Marine Museum were salvaged from an old wharf on the Susquehanna River. For many years, the museum had to content itself with donations from individual donors or groups of individuals who felt they had something special to offer. Beginning in 1988, however, the Fentons began using their own funds to purchase items from various suppliers in order to have more variety and more pieces that could be displayed as part of an ongoing collection. In 1999, when George Fenton passed away, his wife became managing director of the museum. She continued working until her death in 2008. Under her leadership, the museum made significant additions including a new gift shop andgallery which opened in October 2009. In March 2011, it was announced that Peggy’s widow would become president of the museum effective July 1st of that year after previous interim president Linda Lafferty retired because she planned not to continue working full time after her husband’s death due to health issues (Lafferty died two months later). Since its founding, the Pottsville Marine Museum has donated over 4500 items including: boats; fishing equipment; marine paintings; marine memorabilia; USS Constitution relics; USS Constitution China Syndrome novelties;USS Constitution model kit kits; USS Constitution period uniforms; as well as dolls for children and naval officers aboard American warships during World War II.

Pottsville, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1736 by Captain John Potts and his wife Susannah Montgomery. The Potts family had two children, John and Sarah. In 1764, Captain George Washington and his army passed through Pottsville on their way to battle against General Howe at Saratoga. The battle happened just outside of town and as a result, many soldiers lost their lives in the massacre that followed. Pottsville became an important stagecoach stop on the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War because it had a large enough population forsafe passage for fugitive slaves. Many freedmen from surrounding towns such as West Bethlehem and Germantown also lived in Pottsville during the war. After the war ended, many former slaves moved into Pottsville to start anew or take up new opportunities after being emancipated from slavery. The town has experienced several economic downturns over time, but has bounced back since 2000 when it reached its highpoint with a population of 2,500 people. As of 2016, however, pottersVILLE's population had shrunk to 1,898 people due to various factors including declines in manufacturing jobs throughout Pennsylvania and overall struggles across all areas of local economies statewide- particularly those within residential neighborhoods composed largely of African Americans One reason why pottersVILLE continues to experience significant decline may be related to demographics: while white residents once constituted almost two-thirds (67%)of pottersVILLE's total population prior to 2000; this figure now stands at only 30%–and 15%of adults are over 65 years old! This trend underscores how difficult it is for any community – regardless size or color –to sustain sustained populations past middle age."

Pottsville is a small town in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1755 by Col. James Potter and his wife, Susana Potts. The Potters were part of the Pioneers who trekked from Rhode Island to what is now Pennsylvania in 1681. They built a log cabin near the present-day town and named it Pottsville after their home state of Virginia. The first settler in Pottsville was Capt. John Sutter, who arrived in 1755 with his family and set up shop on the south side of the river. He leased land from James Potter for farming purposes and also constructed a stockade around his cabin to protect himself and his family from Indian attack. In 1805, Captain Sutter's son Isaac bought out Capt John Sutter's lease and built agrarian Ferry across the river at present-day Cumberland County (now Delaware County) to bring goods into town from surrounding farms. In 1827, Isaac Sutter donated 5 acres (20,000 m2) of land to the township for use as a public square which became known as "Sutter Square." In 1830, Abraham Lincoln came through Pottsville on his way to attend Yale University where he received an agriculture degree. After graduation he moved to Illinois where he became an early farmer celebrity fighting crop failures on large plantations during the American Civil War. When peace returned after that conflict he sold all his land except about two miles (3 km) north of Pottsville where he still maintains some acreage today as part of Regency Park Township Parkland
On November 11, 1777, a group of patriots led by George Washington engaged in an epic battle against the British army at Pottsville. The battle resulted in a strategic victory for the Americans and helped to start the American Revolution.
