The Pottsville army gift history begins in 1814 when General James Beall, the first Mayor of Pottsville, donated land to the Pennsylvania militia for use as a military outpost. The garrison at Beall's farmstead was used intermittently until it was transferred to Fort Loudoun in 1792 and then to Fort Pitt in 1793. In 1814, Beall again donated land for an army post, this time on the Susquehanna River. The garrison at this site served as a staging ground for operations against Native Americans until it was disbanded in 1818. In 1825, Captain George Armstrong bought 1/4 acre of land near present-day Pottsville and began construction of a new fortification named Fort Armstrong. This fortifications served as an important strategic stop on the Susquehanna River during the American Revolution. In 1827, Captain Armstrong also donated 3 acres of land to build a town named Pottsville on the bank of the Susquehanna River. The town quickly grew into one of the most populous communities in Pennsylvania during nineteenth century times. Beginning in 1832, General James Fenton purchased some additional property within present-day Pottsville and began construction of another fortification called Fort Fenton. This fortifications served as an important strategic stop on the Susquehanna River during American Revolutionary War era. During World War I, Fortress Fenton played an important role in blocking enemy movement along the river corridor from Canada to America. Today,Fortress Fenton remains one of Pittsburgh's most popular tourist destinations with visitors taking tours inside its walls throughout different months of year (eases access restrictions due to weather). Additionally, Fortress Fenton is Heritage Park property that offers educational programming about Pittsburgh's history and culture through exhibits and programs such as "America's First Military Base: Fortress Fenton".

The Pottsville Volunteer Cavalry was a regiment of the Union army that fought in the American Civil War. The regiment was organized at Pottsville, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1861, and mustered into service on January 3, 1862. The regiment served in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 4, 1863. The regiment was disbanded on September 11, 1865.
Pottsville is a town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The population was 10,878 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Lancaster County and second-most populous town in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia. Pottsville was founded by settlers from Holland in 1795. The name of the original settlement may have been derived from a word meaning "meadow" or "borderland." The Pottsville Turnpike begins near the town and connects it with Harrisburg to the east and Philadelphia to the west. The first settler to arrive in what is now Pottsville was John Potter, who built a cabin on government land northeast of present day Pottsville on December 15, 1795. Potter's cabin served as an early trading post between Lancaster County and Dutch New Netherland. In 1812, following construction of the Susquehanna River Bridge over which traffic passed between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pottsville became one of two communities along that stretch of road (the other being West Chester). In 1827, when York County was established, Pottsville became part of that county; but business activities continued there until about 1830 when all but a small amount of pottery production left for such nearby towns as Bethlehem and Stripedome. On July 1, 1800, during Pontiac's Rebellion,[5] troops under General Andrew Pickett burned down several homes in what is now known as Old Town Square in order to capture arms caches belonging to British forces besieging Phoenix Township south of Pittsburgh.[6][7] Some residents were taken prisoner while others managed to escape unharmed;[8] by 1802 most residents had returned home[9][10]. However some soldiers remained entrenched within Old Town Square until late summer 1800 when they abandoned their siege;[11] this event marks one reason why many people refer to downtown PottsVILLE today as "Oldtown".[12][13][14] One popular tourist attraction located within walking distance of downtown is Valley Forge National Historical Park - home movie sets used by Hollywood filmmakers during World War II are located here (including those used for Forrest Gump).[15][16]

Pottsville is a small town in Pennsylvania, located on the Susquehanna River. It was founded in 1753 by John Potts and his family. In 1837, Pottsville became the seat of Clarion County. The population of Pottsville was 10,000 in 1800 and 15,000 by 1830. The Pottsville Manufacturing Company was founded in 1839 and made pottery products including ovens, cups, bowls, plates, jugs and other household items. The company employed over 100 people at its peak. By 1870, the company had closed down and its product line now consists of just a few surviving pieces from that time period. The first post office for Pottsville was established in 1753. The current post office building was built in 1886 and is currently used as a municipal hall. In 1837, James Kapp donated land to be the site of what would become Pottsville Municipal Hall; it opened on July 1st that year with 11 residents living there. On December 5th of that year, vote was taken to name the town after Major General Robert Potter who died during the American Revolutionary War at the Battle of Saratoga where he commanded British forces under General Howe. At first there were only men living in PottsVILLE; women did not have voting rights until 1876 when they were granted voting rights along with men within a five-year window following their husbands' election to local office as representatives from their districts (Plymouth Township). In 1840-1841manual labor camps were set up near Middletown (now part of Allentown) due to an increase in manufacturing jobs available outside Philadelphia while working class families continued to live near their homes throughout this time period instead of moving away for work opportunities because they could not afford it or because they feared political retribution if they left Pennsylvania). During World War II many members from PottsVILLE gathered together at Westwood Air Force Base nearby which offered them shelter from bombings during Operation Overlord which took place between September 1944 - May 1945
Pottsville was a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was located on the south bank of the Susquehanna River. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Potts and named for him. In 1812, it became part of the new Yorktown township. In 1834, Pottsville incorporated as a city and remained so until 1898. It lost its city charter due to lack of support from other municipalities in 1907. Pottsville is known for its cheese industry and for being home to one of two co-operative stores in Lackawanna County – the other is Westmoreland Township's Friendly Grocery store.
