The town's first post-World War II military disturbance came in 1951 when service members from neighboring Wilkes-Barre brought their tanks and artillery into town for an event commemorating General George Smedley's victory at Chantilly Palace while they were on vacation. During the Korean War, local residents donated thousands of items to help support United States forces fighting against North Korea. Since then, Pottstown has been home to both UAW Local 1021 (the International Union of Operating Engineers) and United States Army Garrison Westmoreland (USAGW). These two installations are responsible for providing an annual entertainment program that includes concerts, dance parties and other events that serve as a fundraiser for various local charities.

Pottstown is a small town in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the ten towns in Westmoreland County. Pottstown was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1799. The village of Pottsville and adjoining hamlets of Easton and Uniontown were annexed to Pottstown in 1824. In 1827, the Township of Pottsville formed from parts of two other Townships, Easton and Uniontown. The first meeting for township officers took place on October 12th, 1827. In 1830, when John Fetterman built a mill on the Delaware River near present-day White Marsh Mills there were several farmers who petitioned him to stop working because they could not afford to pay damages for breaking ground; he refused but allowed them to continue using his river bottom land as their farmstead until they paid back the money they had borrowed from him plus interest. In 1840 Pottstown became an incorporated borough with a mayor and seven trustees; it annexed Easton in 1851. Bethlehem Steel Corporation donated land for a steel plant which began production in 1951 and later added other plants including one at Mifflinburg Industrial Park adjacent to Pottstown Borough limits which produced coal until 1984 when that site was closed down due to health concerns aboutcoal mining dust particles reaching people's lungs

Pottstown was founded by Benjamin Potts in 1799. In 1815, it became the capital of Carbon County and remaining as such until 1861 when it merged with Allegheny County to form what is now Pittsburgh. Pottstown has been called "the most important seat of learning in America" and home to Dickinson College and West Point Military Academy.

The first European settler in what is now Pottstown was Nicholas Pennoyer, who arrived in 1682. He built a cabin on Delaware Creek and named it "Pennoyer's Ford". Pennoyer's son John founded the Borough of Pottstown in 1798. In 1848, Pottstown became a part of the new state of Pennsylvania and was incorporated as a borough. In 1906, Pottstown constructed its first public works project when it began construction of its first municipally run waterworks system. The work eventually cost $2 million and was completed in 1912. In 2002, Pottstown celebrated its centennial with an exhibition entitled "100 Years of Progress: From Frontier to Center City". The event included exhibits about local history and culture as well as speeches from civic leaders such as Mayor Edward Rendell and Borough Councilman Glenn Berman
