Pottstown is a town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Potts Creek and was given to it by General John Forbes in 1795. Pottstown is one of two towns located within the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area and is also home to Allentown-based Bethlehem Steel Corporation. The first permanent settler in what would become Pottstown was John Forbes of Edinburgh, Scotland, who arrived onMay 25, 1795. He founded the community near present-day Allentown while traveling through eastern Pennsylvania on his way to join forces with George Washington's Continental Army during the American Revolution. In 1802 Forbes erected a stockade around his small village which served as its nucleus until 1814 when he sold all his land and withdrew from local government.
