The town originally consisted of only a few homes and a store. However, over time, Plum has grown to include a population of over 1,200 residents. The history of Plum begins with John Plum and Sarah’s arrival in 1792. They were both natives of Scotland and had come to America to find new land where they could be successful. John went into business as a miller and Sarah became involved in the local Presbyterian church. Together, they began to build up the community by purchasing land and opening up businesses. In 1812, they built their first school which remains standing today. Over time, Plum grew more significant due to its location within easy reach of Philadelphia and its many economic opportunities.
