In 1834, he donated land for what would become University Park which now includes many fine homes around it. In 1875, logging began operations in Plum and by 1901 there were over 100 mills operating here; many still operate today including Dickson's Mill Museum which opened in 1984 to commemorate his life and work in the industry.
