In 1907, the borough was divided into two townships - one named for Captain John Calloway and one named for his wife Sarah Ann (Dodge). The Dodge township continued to exist until 1951 when it merged with the neighboring Borough of Dumfries to form the current Municipality of Dumfries-Plum. The earliest settler in Plum may have been George Washington Haggerty who arrived there from Northampton Township on July 4, 1799. He erected a log cabin on what is now known as Main Street and started farming land that he had purchased from David Gasson. By 1800, Haggerty had built four more log cabins in what is now known as Park Square; these cabins were used as summer residences by local farmers and their families until they were replaced by permanent structures during the 1840s. During this time period, other pioneers also arrived including Captains Joseph Meagher and William Stout who both settled in what is now Fuller Road between 1800 and 1802; these men were instrumental in establishing grocery stores within Plum soon afterwards which led to increased commerce within the community.
