Plum, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania located on the Beaver River. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The Plum post office was established in 1856 and closed in 1991. The area now known as Plum was first settled by Germans in the early 1800s. A mill here was built in 1825 and continued to be operated until 1862 when it burned down. In 1850, John Fenton developed a farm here which he named Frankenbush after his father-in-law, Friedrich Frankenbush of Dusseldorf, Germany. In 1861, John Fenton's son George bought the farm from his father-in-law and renamed it Franksborough after himself and his wife Caroline Franks (died 1868). The town of Plum began to form around this time with people coming from various parts of Butler County to take advantage of its fertile land and good water supply. In 1876, Mayor William Hinton erected a public building here which served as the court house for all of Butler County until 1908 when that office moved to Lebanon Township. In 1915, there were only 100 residents living in Plum and by 1920 there were just 15 still living there with noroads or businesses connecting them together other than what they could catch glimpses of from their homes on either side of the river. However, things started to change quickly when Jerry Wolkowski purchases property east of town along Beaver Creek for $5 per acre (or less) and set about building what would become known as Wolkowski's Mill which later became a major employer in the community. From then on things got better with more businesses opening up including a grocery store/ hardware store/ bakery/ ice cream parlor that opened up in 1951 called Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Factory; a hospital which opened up during World War II called Valley Forge Hospital; an amusement park called Keystone Parks; and finally Overbrook Elementary School which was built in 1984 across from Wolkowski's Millself which remains one of the most popular attractions today within the community even though it has been vacant since 2001!

Plum, Pennsylvania is a small town in the state of Pennsylvania located about thirty-five miles north of Pittsburgh. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. Plum Township was organized in 1795 and named for John Plumtree, an early settler. The first white settlers arrived in Plum in 1795 and began to build cabins on the banks of the Monongahela River. The community grew slowly until 1814 when a group of men under the leadership of Captain Samuel Tipton founded what would become known as Cherry Hill Township. In 1825, Captain John Hays donated land to the township for educational purposes. In 1827, Westmoreland County was created from parts of Allegheny and Butler counties and Plum became part of that new county. By 1830, plum had a schoolhouse and two churches which were both built by subscription only. In 1846, Joseph Bowers donated land to form what would become Northumberland Township which included much of what is now Plum including its present day boundaries. Northumberland quickly became one of the most thriving townships in Pennsylvania due to its fertile farmland and strategic location near major rivers such as Beaverdam Creek and Thomson Creek. In 1906, Northumberland Township merged with Cherry Hill Township to form Southwestern Borough (later called Washington). In 1918, Washington merged with neighboring Clearfield Borough to form Clearfield Township which remains today one of the most diverse townships in Pennsylvania with over seventy different ancestries represented within its borders! Today, Plum is bicyclists' paradise as well as a great place to live if you're looking for easy access to all that Pittsburgh has to offer!
