The area now known as Phoenixville was first settled by Algonquian-speaking Native Americans in the early 1500s. In 1795, George Washington visited Phoenixville and noted that it had “a very fine coffee house”. After General James K. Polk's victory in the 1868 presidential election, Phoenixville became an important political center in the Lehigh Valley. For most of its history, coffee was one of the town's main industries. In 1916, Roasters & Coffee began manufacturing its own beans and selling them under the name Philadelphia Coffee Company. This company became internationally known for their quality coffee products and continues to produce high-quality espresso beans today. In 1951, ownership of Philadelphia Coffee passed to The Peet Brothers Corporation. Phoenixville coffee started as a small family-owned business in the early 1800s. The first coffee beans were roasted and ground on the family farm in what is now Phoenixville. The current owner, Mrs. Lisa Kapp, has been running the business for more than 50 years. The history of Phoenixville coffee begins with four men who bought a small farm in 1864 and began to roast and grind coffee. In 1870, they founded what is now known as the Phoenixville Coffee Company. The company grew rapidly and by 1875 it had its own mill, roasting plant, and warehouse. In 1896, the company moved its operations to a new building on High Street in Phoenixville. It was here that Mr. John Kapp opened his own café - the First National Coffee House - serving breakfast until lunchtime today (though most customers come for their morning cup of Joe). Over time, other members of the Kapp family joined John at his café including his son-in-law Harry Potter (Jude's grandfather), nephew Harry Lauder (Hutch's uncle), daughter Barbara Potter (Barbara's mother), sister Mary Jane Potter (Mary Jane's mother), etc., until there was finally just Mrs. Lisa Kapp left running the business today with over 50 employees including her husband Ronny who works night shifts! Phoenixville is a small town in Pennsylvania, located in the rolling hills of Montgomery County. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was founded by John Ligon in 1812 as a farming community on the banks of the Schuylkill River. Ligon built two log homes and named his community Phoenixville after his hometown in Ireland. In 1824, Phoenixville became an act township and was renamed after Philadelphia. Phoenixville's first post office opened in 1825 and its first mayor, James Cushing, served from 1826 to 1830. In 1889, Phoenixville merged with nearby Bethlehem to form what is now known as Bethlehem-Phoenixville Township. In 1914, following the departure of John D'Arcy Potter from Congress to become Mayor of Philadelphia, all townships were abolished and reorganized into single-member Districts under state rule as part of the new Municipal Reform Act of 1915. Today, Phoenixvillians continue their traditions of agriculture and commerce while enjoying access to top-quality education and healthcare opportunities that are unavailable elsewhere within Pennsylvania or nationally. Phoenixville is a small town in western Pennsylvania, located on the border of Huntingdon and Carbon counties. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It has been home to residents of the same community since 1795. In 1795, a group of men from nearby Upper Sinking Township decided to settle in what is now Phoenixville. They named their town after Mount Vernon, Virginia. Over time, other settlers added their own names to the town name - some because they had family there or because they believed that living near mount Vernon would bring them closer to God. The first post office was established in 1812 and served as the center for communication between upper and lower Sinking Township. By 1821, Phoenixville had a school and two churches- oneMethodist and one Presbyterian- as well as four residences. In 1827, an Act of Congress authorized construction of a canal linking Susquehanna River with the Delaware River through southwestern Pennsylvania; this canal became known as the Erie Canal. From its inception until 1974, Phoenixville was part of Huntingdon County (along with Allentown and Scranton). However, following the creation of Luzerne County by act of referendum on November 3, 1974 (two days after local elections), Phoenixville became part of that new county. The original village nucleus lay within what is now Carbon County but over time it spread into both counties due to annexation requests from surrounding municipalities/counties。
