Phoenixville is a borough in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded on October 25, 1825, by the merger of two small settlements: Bethlehem and Pine Grove. The population was 971 at the 2010 census. The borough is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The village of Phoenixville was located on assessments land that was given to it by the state in 1786 as compensation for its loss in the Pennypack War. In 1811, the township of Bethlehem merged with Phoenixville and all of Butler County came into being as a result. The arrival of railroads during the early 19th century made town development more difficult and some residents left to find jobs on larger townships such as Duquesne or Phila., but many families remained until after World War II when most migrants moved away from rural areas due to agricultural depression and competition from suburban development. In 1912, an act declaring Phoenixville a borough became effective; however, no one voted to incorporation until 1914 because there were only 7 residents living in what would become Phoenixville proper. On October 25th of that year, both Pine Grove (originally called Bethlehem) and Bethlehem voted unanimously in favor of incorporation; this action set off a chain reaction which led to other communities merging into Phoenixville over time – Allentown amalgamated with neighboring Westmoreland on December 5th 1911 followed by Northampton Township January 6th 1912 before finally Uniontown March 15th 1912. It wasn't until 1917 when voters passed an ordinance creating wards which would give them more power within their own municipality - something they had been requesting since 1915.
