The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Oil City, Pennsylvania has been providing essential services to the community for over eighty years. The Auxiliary's mission is to protect the citizens of our area by providing law enforcement, firefighting and coastal defense services. The Auxiliary was founded on December 6th, 1927 as a result of a merger of two local volunteer organizations: the Oil City Volunteer Fire Department and the Oil City Lifeboat Company. At its peak membership in 1951 there were over 1,200 members. Today, Coast Guard Auxiliary members provide support to more than 4,000 residents in Oil City and surrounding communities. The Auxiliary operates four stations within our community – one located at Point Breeze Shopping Center; one at the Harbor View Marina; one at the Naval Shipyard; and one located near Interstate 80 just south of downtown. In addition to their essential roles in protecting our community, Coast Guard Auxiliaries have made an impact on many aspects of life here in Oil City. For example, during Hurricane Irene in 2011 they donated boats and supplies to help with rescue efforts.
