New Kensington, Pennsylvania is a town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metropolitan area. New Kensington was settled by Germans in 1792. The first settler named New Kensington was Nicholas Kappeler and his family from Hamburg, Germany. In 1824, John Armstrong erected a sawmill on West Main Street in what is now known as Armstrong's Mills Park. This mill became one of the most important post mills in the area; it processed lumber and other materials for local markets until it closed in 1944. The new borough of Camden formed from portions of Bucks County on December 15, 1899; New Kensington went with it. On November 3rd of that year, Borough President James Gist made an announcement that parts of the village of Whitehall (now called Germantown) had also decided to form a borough government so they could get better transportation to their factories and other businesses located thereabouts. On February 14th 1902 Mayor George Hynes announced that all municipalities within Bucks County were being merged into one township: "This will make life more convenient for our citizens," he said . The name change comes about because at the time Township meetings were held informally with only a reading list compiled from residents who lived near each municipality - this led to some confusion as some people living outside Township boundaries (e.g., those living near Center City) thought their municipality still existed when it actually didn't! Although originally just a group of small villages forming part of Whitehall Township proper - including New Kensington - on July 1st 1906 all municipalities within Bucks County had become Uniontown Township which included both Whitehall and much of neighboring Hornsby Township as well as several other smaller townships east and southeast thereof... finally ending any ambiguity surrounding whether or not these constituent villages should have continued to use their individual names when they formed Uniontown or transfer back to their proper municipalities once again! On October 25th 1896 Pemberton Realty Company opened up its first office in what is now known as Southwark Shopping Center along North Broad Street across from Pennypack Square Mall...the company would later move its operations downtown into its present building which still stands today on Market Street right next door to Southwark Social Services! In keeping with township tradition all property deeds issued during this time were printed on large bronze tablets usually found outdoors throughout townships...it wasn’t until after World War II when computer printing began becoming popular that such technologies started appearing inside municipal buildings! Uniontown saw rapid growth following World War II due in part to increased demand for worker housing during wartime industrial production; however by 1960 there were just over 1,000 residents within theTownship limitsOf Uniontown while ½ mile north standless West Whiteland Towers currently house over 4500 current & future residents/Residents tell me this high density does nothing but help keep prices down here compared to larger cities where you can purchase multiple units AND build your own sidewalk!!!
