New Kensington is a town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. New Kensington was laid out by George Washington in 1797 as Easton Township. In 1834 it became Westmoreland Township and in 1868 it became Kensington Borough. On November 14, 1870, the borough of Kensington merged with neighbouring Brentwood to form what is now known as Philadelphia. The first settler in New Kensington was John Armstrong who arrived there on October 24, 1797. He built a cabin on the west side of Conestoga Creek where he and his family would live for over fifty years until 1850 when they moved to what is now Delaware Avenue in what is now east central Philadelphia. In 1834, George Washington laid out a tract of land called Newtown Township which included present-day New Kensington along with portions of Huntingdon and Carbon Counties to the north and west. The township's first elections were held on April 6, 1835 and all but one commissioner were from Pennsylvanian Native Americans living within the territory then under British control including Chief Weequahicoun (Wesleyan). In 1865, when Pennsylvania joined the Union as an American state, Newtown Township became part of newly created Montgomery County while Easton Township remained within Berks County pending its annexation by Montgomery County according to Acts 2nd Session Of The General Assembly Of Pennsylvania (1865), p 351 et seq., however this never happened because Brentwood filed suit against Montgomery County for failing to annex them into their county according to Act 3rd Session Of The General Assembly Of Pennsylvania (1867). After Brentwood's annexation into Philadelphia by that city on November 14th 1870 residents voted not to become residents ofPhiladelphia so they continued to call themselves "New Kensington" even though their town boundaries changed multiple times over the next century until they currently reside within eastern Montgomery County proper although some still call themselves "Westmoreland" or "Easton." There are many businesses located throughout New Kensington such as KFC & Pizza which opened up shop back in 1984 and continues today along with several other small businesses like beauty supply stores like Bobs Haircuts & More along with several large retailers such as Macy's Department Store & JCPenney which have been around since before America's independence including Big Macs restaurants etcetera giving very strong indication that this once sleepy corner town has definitely not lost its touch since those early days when people only came here for shopping reasons instead of actually living here full time due primarily to expensive commuting distance from larger cities like Philly or Baltimore especially during high volume seasons; something that has definitely NOTHING whatsoever do with crime rates given that these areas have seen less major action than either Philly or Baltimore during recent decades despite both cities having populations 5 times greater than New Kensinton! Although crime rates have certainly increased recently relative to older values (-10% per year) thisCertainly cannot be directly attributed to anything specific happening in New Kensington during recent decades other than overall economic stability (#3 ranking among most peaceful communities in USA) notwithstanding some occasional local robberies or burglaries however these incidentsstill represent a very low percentage (~1%) compared To similarly sized towns such as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where violent crimes rate numbers approaching 20% annually! Lastlydensity (population density) does play a role somewhat albeit modestly (+2 people per sq mile vs 1 person per sq mile for nearby Camden), however again This surely cannot be solely responsible for any positive changes taking place within our tiny town over recent decades!

New Kensington, Pennsylvania is a town in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. New Kensington is one of the oldest settlements in what would become Philadelphia County and was founded by German immigrants in 1768. The community's name derived from its location on the north side of the Delaware River between Huntingdon and Southwark Streets (now called Spring Garden Avenue). The first white settlers were two families who settled on land that became known as "Nate's Hill". In 1772, George Washington and his family visited New Kensington while on their way to Huntingdon Station. Washington recommended this location for settlement because it had a good water supply and an available lot for building. This led to the founding of New Kensington proper in 1773 by John Beale and Johann Schoenlein with assistance from Benjamin Franklin. The community quickly grew due to its strategic position along trade routes running through its territory. By 1800, it had a full-time government and boasted a library, post office, schoolhouse, four churches (Anglican (1773), Lutheran (1801)), three general stores (one founded 1802 by David Dixon), four taverns/pubs/lodges (the first opened 1804), several blacksmiths/weavers shops/flour mills/, several hoesmiths', three sawmills/,[and] four lime kilns/. In 1814–15, during Andrew Jackson's administration as President of the United States, New Kensington experienced heavy immigration resulting in increased population density and development problems such as sewage spills into local waterways which caused extensive damage to environment
New Kensington was founded in 1793 by the merger of two villages, Kensington and New Lebanon. The town was named for Benjamin Newkirk, a Revolutionary War soldier and landowner who donated the land on which it was built.
