Nanticoke, Pennsylvania was a small town in the Susquehanna Valley when the United States Navy deployed its first ship to that location in 1917. The USS Constitution (LST-159) arrived on December 8th and disembarked 372 Marines from the USS Maine (BB-59). The enlisted men were quartered at Fort Mifflin before being transferred to Camp Kilpatrick for training. From there they were sent to various Naval Air Station locations around the country before being stationed at NAS Norfolk, Virginia until Pearl Harbor activated in 1941. The USS Constitution's crew received numerous gifts during their deployment. These include cigars, cigarettes, postcards, Naval radios and other equipment. Many of these items are now on display at Nanticoke Library and Museum.

The town was part of the federal district of Allegheny County from 1802 to 1815 and again from 1827 to 1830. It was chartered as a borough on November 3, 1795, by commissioners named "Commissioner Charles Xavier". The name Nanticoke may derive from the Susquehanna River which flows through it. The first post office in Nanticoke opened in 1800. In 1807, the township became an independent school DISTRICT #5 under Act No. 5 of 1807. On January 1, 1830, the Township became anindependent municipality within Allegheny County; however, until 1861 it continued to be part of Nanticoke Boroughs census division number 6 (#1). On October 15th 1861 when Allegheny County changed its form into a single county (it had been divided into two counties since 1795), Nanticoke Borough became part of that new county and ceased to exist as an independent municipality.

The United States Navy deployment of gifts has been a tradition for many years. Gifts have come in all shapes and sizes, from small tokens of appreciation to large items that represent the Navy's commitment to service and support. One of the most well-known deployments is the "Navy Christmas Tree" which is celebrated every year during Christmas. The tree is a traditional symbol of good will and cheer for servicemen and women who are deployed overseas. The tree is also a chance for friends and family to get close together during this special time. Gift history for the US Navy goes back centuries. In 1801, Commodore James Cook sailed into Puget Sound with his flagship USS Discovery on a scientific expedition led by Rear Admiral John Cushing. Cook brought back 296 presents, including 11 cannons, three ships' stores, 2 cannonballs, 1 bannerstaff, 2 pistols, 3 knives and 400 cups of coffee! This was one of the earliest recorded displays of goodwill between American naval vessels and their foreign counterparts! In 1860, when America became an empire under President Abraham Lincoln, there was an increased demand for naval gift giving by members of Congress. Naval personnel were given various trinkets such as swords or buttons as mementos from their service life. It wasn't until 1933 that Congress passed legislation authorizing the presentation of gifts at major sea engagements such as Fleet Review events! Since then there have been numerous deployments throughout our Nation's history - both domestic (eastern seaboard) and international (the Persian Gulf). And each time there has been a need for new ideas about what navy deploys can bring to friends and family gatherings around the country! It seems only fitting that we observe another military deployment this Veterans Day with some selected examples from recent years: • In 2014-2015 USS Theodore Roosevelt sailed through Japan's Yokosuka Harbor on her maiden voyage as part of OperationJapanEliminate — providing logistical support to Japanese Defense Minister Yasuhisa Shimomura in his visit to Tokio’s Haneda Airport prior to Abe’s inauguration ceremonies on November 4th. During her stay she took home 31 tons (27 long tons/7 short tons) worthof supplies including food items (napkins & tissues), drinks(tea & water), electronic devices(laptop computers&MP3 players), vehicles(jeeps & SUVs), uniforms(world War II era hats etc.), art pieces(jewelry etc.), tools(scissors/jigsaw/hammer)and more! She departed Yokosuka Harbor on December 5th after completing her tour; making Japan one step closer towards becoming an economically stable nation! This particular deployment generated much excitement within our community due not just to its scale but also because it featured something unique – Trophies Given To Sailors Who Participated In This Event went out directlyto Families Of those Sailors Who received Them!!! Nanticoke is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area. Nanticoke is known for its lace industry and has been called "the most famous lace town in America." The community formed around a mill which had been built on the same site since 1795. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1836 but raised money to rebuild and continued to produce lace until 1997. Nanticoke also manufactures paper products such as toiletry items and chipboard furniture. The first settler in what is now Nanticoke was George Washington Rainey who arrived with his family in 1795. By 1800, there were seventeen families living here, eleven of whom were farming homes near the millrace that powered the mill. In 1836, a fire destroyed both the mills including George Washington's home which he rebuilt using local materials and labor within weeks of it happening. He became one of the early leaders of Nanticoke and marketing it as "the Most Famous Lace Town In America". In 1897, when lace production stopped due to economic reasons (a result of prohibition), many people left Nanticoke for other opportunities such as Philadelphia or New York City where lace manufacturing still took place at high levels during this time period. However, over time some residents decided to come back to their old home because they found new opportunities here such as becoming teachers or working at local businesses like dry goods stores or soap manufacturers before returning again when prohibition ended in 1933. Many residents who had originally left came back after World War II when demand for military uniforms increased and since there was no domestic production available anymore following World War II many locals decided to stay put and start businesses like bakershops or grocery stores while others moved away altogether creating today's village set against ruins from those days: Today's downtown area is completely surrounded by residential buildings dating back to 1840s/50s while much older farmsteads are scattered among these newer structures on either side of busy streets filled with shops and restaurants dating back more than two centuries ago! It should be noted that despite being described above as "Lackawanna County's most famouslace town", there have been numerous communities throughout Lackawanna County named Nanticoke; all located adjacent to each other on opposite sides of I-81 - one mile north from where present day Nanticake stands - making this once small settlement into an overnight community encompassing several hamlets spread across three counties!
