Nanticoke is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,735 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the Susquehanna River and has a twin Community of Nanticoke-on-the-Lake. It is part of the Erie–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Nanticoke was first settled by German farmers in 1795. A post office was established there in 1848, and by 1860 it had acquired the name "Nanticoke". The community grew rapidly due to its location on the Susquehanna River, which made it an important shipping point for goods from eastern Canada and New York City. The arrival of railroad trains in 1870 helped spur development around the town center; today's buildings date back to that time. In 1892, a group of local businessmen founded what would become known as Nanticoke Manufacturing Company; this company manufactured agricultural products such as flour, butter, cheese and appleseed oil until it ceased operations in 1976. Today, portions of what were once company headquarters remain standing; among these are two large factories with over 350 workers whose production helped contribute to Nanticoke's status as one of America's leading manufacturing communities during its heyday (1902-1976). Today, many businesses and services continue to be headquartered in or near Nanticoke thanks to its strategic location on Interstate 81 between Erie and Niagara Falls. This corridor has led to increased traffic congestion within the small town but also opportunities for new investment and growth outside of it - including projects adjacent to or bordering Nanticokes' borders: along I-81's border with Lackawanna County lies Beavercreek Township (home of Perry Park), just east of Wyoming Valley Airport; across I-81 from Nanticokes sits Tellico Lake Township (home of Sayreville) - both towns have enjoyed significant housing development recently spearheaded by their respective county governments; while west of I-81 lays Mattituck Township (home of North Easton), home mostly now to agriculture after years hosting few businesses other than government offices/parks/a school – recent developments include a $10 million project announced last year by township officials aimed at reviving downtown NorthEaston - all indicative not only of how tight economic conditions have made life difficult for some people within central PA but also how much potential remains for this small town when all Else fails

Nanticoke is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 921 at the 2010 census. Nanticoke is located on the Susquehanna River, approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Scranton and about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Altoona. The first European to explore this area was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1492. He named the river Nanticoke after his native place in Italy. The first settlers arrived in 1795 and located here because they could find no other place to settle near the Susquehanna River. By 1800, most of what is now Nanticoke had been settled. In 1814, General George Washington explored this area and recommended that a post be erected here for military purposes; but it wasn't until 1834 that an actual post office was established at Nanticoke with John Armstrong as its first occupant. In 1835, James Kapp founded a gristmill which became one of the largest mills west of the Allegheny Mountains. During World War I, many men from Nanticoke served in the army or navy and many local businesses were involved in war production such as munitions manufacturing and trucking supplies to active battlefields around the world. After World War II ended, many small businesses closed down due to economic recession and competition from larger chainsetteries throughout western Pennsylvania; however, some small businesses have recently reopened thanks to new investment by local entrepreneurs who know how to revive old brick buildings! Nanticoke's rich history goes back nearly two centuries when German immigrants built a railroads through these parts connecting Lancaster County with Pittsburgh across Pennsylvania’s northern border. From their homes on both sides of the Susquehanna River they supervised construction crews working day and night under arduous conditions without rest or food while living within days or weeks of railroad tracks that crossed their property numerous times daily! These Germans were also responsible for powering early mills along our riverbanks where millstones still are found today like those operated by John Kapp & Sons gristmill mentioned earlier-just downstream from where we stand today! German settlers started out small but quickly developed into large entrepreneurial families whoowned entire villages/townships throughout Lancaster County including parts now known as Lebanon Township east OF Scranton & north OF Wilkes-Barre township! Many descendants still live scattered throughout all these areas keeping close touch with their earliest ancestors thru family reunion events etcetera
