Nanticoke Coffee was founded by the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dickey, who were fundamental in developing the town's coffee culture. The first node of Nanticoke Coffee was established on Market Square in 1927, and it has remained a popular spot for locals to gather and enjoy fresh roasted coffee ever since.
Nanticoke is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh–The Scranton–Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Nanticoke were Captain John Smith and his crew on the " Discovery " in 1579. In 1614, James Overstreet of nearby Wilkinsburg built a mill there that still stands today. In 1692, Colonel George Stephenson erected a flour mill here. The present structure was built in 1865 by J.P. Morgan & Co.. Nanticoke's post office operated from 1825 to 1878 and again from 1907 to 1916; it was replaced by the current building which housed the local library until its closure in 2009. In 1915, two sisters named Fannie Swartz and Minnie Kahn founded an agricultural cooperative known asthe Farmers' National Bank of Nanticoke with assistance from their father Joseph Kahn Sr.. The bank became one of the largest banking institutions in Butler County and remains active today with over $100 million in assets as of 2018. Nanticoke was founded in 1798 by Dutch colonists as a Loyalist settlement on the Susquehanna River. The first store in Nanticoke was established by Captain John Hardenbeck and his family. The community began to grow rapidly due to its location on the main waterway between Pittsburgh and Erie, and its access to agricultural land. In 1801, most of Nanticoke were added to Pittsburgh when that city became an incorporated borough. However, because of its size and strategic location for trade and transportation within the region, Nanticoke continued to thrive until the early 20th century. During World War II, much of Nanticoke was bombed by American forces during Operation Neptune's Spear; however, few buildings were destroyed or damaged in this attack. Thanks largely to donations from local citizens who had lost property in the war or who had been displaced as a result of bombings elsewhere in Western Pennsylvania (such as Stratholme), many rebuilt homes were erected in what is now Nanticoke during postwar reconstruction efforts. In recent years there has been renewal interest in preserving aspects of local history through projects like establishing a museum or historical marker for any particular structure or event found within town limits - something that has become increasingly popular throughout North America since 9/11 gave residents increased awareness of their communities' pasts and potential connections with Terrorism-related events abroad.
