Munhall is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. The Munhall Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Munhall began as a log cabin settlement on the left bank of the Susquehanna River in 1796. It was named for Andrew Munhall, a Scotch-Irish surveyor and landowner who had donated land to the town. In 1803, Munhall became an incorporated village under the control of Butler County. The original courthouse and jail were built in 1814. The town experienced several economic setbacks during the late 19th century due to transportation difficulties and natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. However, it regained much of its lost popularity during World War II when munition production increased in nearby Scranton because of munitions produced by Munhall's plant that made plutonium for nuclear weapons plants around the world. During much of this time (1946–1991), local citizens organized themselves into "municipal councils" which ran their own affairs including education, libraries, social services, fire protection and zoning regulations. These councils continued until discontinued by county custom after incorporation into Butler County government as required by state law; however they are still remembered today through annual events such as "Town Meeting Day". In recent years Munhall has seen growth due to new businesses opening up along with conversions from single-family homes to apartments or condos; however some aspects of its history remain unchanged including its traditional farmers' market located on Main Street every Saturday morning from April through November

Munhall is a small town in Pennsylvania, located about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is considered part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Munhall's first settler was Nicholas McGraw, who arrived in 1798. The town was named for John Munhall, an early settler and one of the original trustees of Allegheny County. Munhall began to grow rapidly during the 1800s due to its location on a major wagon route and its close relationship with nearby Wheeling, West Virginia. In 1801, William Pitt founded the University of Western Pennsylvania in Milton Township and donated land for a college campus in what is now Munhall. During this time, local businesses became known as "Pittsburgh's First Streetcars." The municipality of Munhall was organized on July 1, 1903 by order of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court under Act No. 592 (1903). At that time it consisted only of unincorporated areas near Monongahela River including present-day Crestwood Park and parts of McKees Rocks Borough. With the opening of Interstate 495 in 1966 and other development along that highway within commuting distance, many residents moved away from downtown Munhall or suburban homes into new subdivisions while still keeping their historic buildings intact. Most notably these developments were around Glenview Avenue eastward from I-471/I-476 which today forms much of Steubenville Valley shopping center adjacent to Butler Hills High School - both were developed by J P Morgan Companies through extensive acquisition and redevelopment over several decades beginning in the late 1960s when most people had already left for good when they did so On December 12th 1955 local history society "The Hounds" held their annual meeting at Masonic Temple with President Harry Kapp absent due to his death two days earlier making Mrs Kapp Acting President until he could be returned Many items were discussed including a report on work being done by Historical Society members on behalf of borough council including restoration projects at some old schools as well as cleaning up municipal facilities etc but no specific decisions were made
Munhall was originally a small, rural community in the Beaver County area of Pennsylvania. When the United States government created Westmoreland County in 1784, Munhall became one of its first five townships. In 1864, it was renamed to honor General John Munhall who fought in the American Revolution and later served as an U.S. Army general during the Mexican-American War. The population of Munhall peaked at 1,700 in 1910 but has declined since then; today, there are only a few hundred people living in the town.
