Munhall is a town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. Munhall is part of the Reading–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Munhall is located on the Susquehanna River and near the border of Huntingdon County and Lebanon County. The first settler in what is now Munhall was John Henson who arrived in 1774 from Northumberland Township, England. He founded a small farm named "Henson's Mill" on what is now southbound SR 641 just west of present daymunhall Elementary School. Henson's descendants still live in that property today. In 1857, local landowners sold 1/4 mile (0.6 km) east of where SR 641 meets Route 309 to James Fenton for $225 per acre (1/2 acre = $10). This land became known as Fenton's Valley because it lay between two large valleys called Huntingdon Valley to the north and Susquehanaw Valley to the south. The town site was laid out by Act No., 3rd Legislature of Pennsylvania (1857), which repealed an act passed by 2nd Legislature (1846). The original town plat included four blocks square with a single street running through each block: Main Street ran east-west through center block; First Avenue ran north-south across Center block; Second Avenue ran east-west along Second Avenue; and Third Avenue ran southwest from Main Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues until it met up with Fourth Avenue at what is now Market Square. The first school in what is now Munhall was built on land donated by Rev Rufus Wertheimer in 1856. It opened for instruction on December 12th, 1857 under the name "Erie Normal School". In 1861, when Union troops burned down Erie Normal School during their occupation of Lancaster County, they destroyed most of MUNHALL'S infrastructure including both schools but left some building standing including Engine House #2 which still stands today as part of LITTLE BURNHAM Village Park

Munhall is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. Munhall is part of the Buffalo, New York metropolitan area. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1795 on land that had been purchased from the Susquehannocks by General George Washington and his army during their first campaign against the British in North America. The name "Munhall" comes from a small stream that flows through the town. In 1803, Sir John Ayscough erected a sawmill on the main stream and began to produce lumber for buildings and furniture. In 1812, Judge James Munhall established what became known as "the Academy." This academy served as a training ground for future lawyers and judges. In 1824, Isaac Ascott organized a farmers' association to improve conditions for agriculture in Lackawanna County. This group helped to form what would become the Republican party in Pennsylvania. In 1830, Congressman David Humphreys moved his seat from Erie to Munhall so that he could better represent constituents there. Humphreys was one of the first Americans to travel to China and Japan as part of an effort to learn about those countries' cultures and systems of government. In 1835, Munhall residents ratified a new constitutions which gave them more power than their counterparts in some other townships within Lackawanna County until they were granted voting rights in 1840. At this time,munhall also became home to what is now known as "The Water Tower," which acquired its current appearance when it was replaced by its present structure in 1895 following extensive damage caused by heavy rainsoccurring during earlier years of construction (see photo). Aircrew members of World War I flew out of nearby Buffalo Municipal Airport while stationed at Monhegan Airfield (now Sayre Air Force Base) beginning on October 15th 1918 until November 11th 1918; all squadron members returned safely without loss or injury
Munhall was founded in 1795 by John Munhall and his wife, Sarah. The town is named for John Munhall's father, who helped found the settlement. In 1807, the first physician in Munhall, Dr. George Fenton, opened a practice. In 1814, the first school in Munhall was established. A post office was established inmunhall in 1827 and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1912. The population of Munhall peaked at around 2,500 in 1920 but has since declined significantly. A local hospital opened its doors to patients in 1940 and continues to serve as an essential provider of health care services to the community today.
