Munhall is located on the Susquehanna River and is the county seat of Susquehanna County. The name Munhall may derive from its original location near the confluence of two rivers where water could be drawn from both sources for watering livestock and humans. In 1701, John Munhall surveyed land here. His grandson also named this community after him. In 1818, David Brown built a gristmill and sawmill here which were among the first in that area. The mill continued to operate until it was destroyed by fire in 1942. From 1868 to 1926, eastern Unincorporated Susquehanna Township used Munhall as its courthouse while Borough of Allentown functioned as its government center until it moved to Allentown in 1926. At 2-1/2 miles long and wide with a population of only 350 people in 1800 (vs 10,000+ today), Munhall had very limited transportation options when it first arrived on the scene during what was then called "the American Revolution". However, over time munial businesses have grown to include several restaurants (including one still open today), 3 auto parts stores/, 2 mechanics shops/, one general store/, 4 gas stations/, 1 grocery store/, 5 convenience stores/and more!
