The Marine Corps was first mobilized in 1917 during World War I. The first Marines were sent to Europe in October of that year and served for two years. In 1919, the Marines were activated for World War II. The enlistment of women began on July 24, 1941, and by December 1st, 1942, there were over 1,500 Marine Women serving in the United States Marine Corps. On November 9th 1945, Japan capitulated and the Japanese Empire was dissolved. This event led to the end of World War II and the end of service for female Marines. Since then, Marines have deployments all around the world including Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation Noble Eagle (OE), and Operation Neptune’s Spear (OPN). It is interesting to note that since 1971 when women became eligible for marine service after being discharged from combat duty with a Purple Heart or higher awarded “honorably” they have been deployed in every war season except one which wasOperation Desert Storm where they served as medical support units only. In Monroeville Township we are proud to have a history of military servicemen and women who have worn our colors over time. As Americans we must always remember those who fought and died while helping make our country great- both past and present members of the Armed Forces include marines!
The Marine Corps Deployment Gift Program is a unique and meaningful way for Marines to express their love of service. The program features unique and thoughtful gifts that commemorate the Corps’ history, culture, and commitment to readiness. The gift program was designed to provide an opportunity for Marines to show their appreciation for the service they are volunteering to give. Gifts can be anything from a physical gift such as an flowers or a bookmark, to an online gift such as a subscription to aMilitary Times magazine or an adoption kit. The program is open to all Marines who are deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gifts may be given at any time during any deployment, and no specific date or location is required. There is noMaximum amount of gifts that can be sent per person. Gifts are best received by mail, but can also be delivered in person if desired. Monroeville is a small town in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1792 by John Monro and his wife, Martha. The population was 753 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Center City borough of Philadelphia. The first settler in what is now Monroeville was John Monro who left England for America in 1792 with his family. The town site was selected by General Anthony Wayne as the site of a new military fortification on December 10, 1796 to protect settlers from British attack. The fort was abandoned soon after its construction but has been preserved as a historical landmark today. John Monro's son-in-law George Washington visited the town on July 4, 1800 while he was campaigning against James Ketchum for U.S. Congress from Pennsylvania’s 3rd District (now Delaware County). In 1807, some residents of Newtown built a log cabin on the edge of present day Old Mill Pond for themselves and their families; this became known as "Monroe's Tavern." A store and post office were established here in 1809 under the name "Newtown." In 1810, two brothers named Nicholas and Nicholas Jr., set up shop at what is now Main Street and Hunting Road because they could not find enough customers at Monroe's Tavern due to their distance from Philadelphia proper. He arrived early one morning in October 1813 to find an entire block burned down during riots that had broken out over disputed elections results! This event forever changed Monroeville as it served as an early warning sign about potential violence erupting anywhere within Liberty Township (which included much of what is nowPhiladelphia) during that period of Reconstruction following America’s Civil War! One resident recalled: “I have never seen anything like it before or since; there must have been close upon 1000 men fighting around us –mostly young men between 15 and 25 years old! It looked very dangerous but no one seemed to be hurt so we all went back inside our houses to get more food” In 1815–1816 three blacksmiths opened up shop near where Main Street meets Hunting Road called Blacksmith Shop No 1 & 2 which are still extant today! This activity helped contribute significantly towards increasing trade ties between Philadelphia & Readington (now West Chester), PA thanks largely to American smelters active nearby including those operated by Andrew Carnegie & Eli Whitney during this time period! Blacksmith Shop No 1 closed circa 1830-1831 when business dried up because larger mills were opening up nearer Steelton & Reading with better transportation options available making production far easier rather than having to drive hundreds or even thousands miles round trip just for forge work !! also note mention made about furnace being destroyed sometime after 1830? Which may date back to when BlacksmithShopNo1 closed??????? Also notableestead #5 located southwest corner off High Street which still stands today being used occasionally for softball games etc!!!!!!

One of the earliest examples of marine gift history can be found in 1887 when Corporal Charles W. Hargrave presented his sergeant with a beautiful new watch. This gesture of kindness would continue through the years, as Marines would often give medals and other awards to friends and family members on special occasions. Gifts were also often given as thank yous for good service or during wartime catastrophes such as World War II. Many times, marines would go above and beyond in order to make someone’s day. For example, Private First Class John Ritchie gave his friend Lieutenant General George Custer a custom made suit at an event honoring the general’s legacy in 1902. Similarly, Sergeant Major Clifford Sarnoff gave many troops Christmas gifts throughout World War II including cigars, cigarettes and candy bars. In 1946, Marine Corporal Roy Jordon donated 26 pairs of tennis shoes to local children in New York City after seeing them being worn by American servicemen on TV advertising campaigns . Today, marines still find time for special Thanks Givers moments! During National Service Week (July 22-28), all Marines are encouraged to offer loved ones handmade items such as pillows or mugs from their personal stores or barracks cupboards (novelty items only). As part of this effort, marines will also offer reasonable shipping on orders over $50.* Additionally, all Marines are urged to participate in The Great American Gift Drive - which runs from July 15-21 - where they can donate any nice item they may have lying around!* Finally, remember that giving back is not just about giving money; it’s about showing your support for those who serve our country!
