Meadville, Pennsylvania is a small town in southern Butler County, Pennsylvania located on the Lehigh River. The population was 515 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The first coffeehouses in Meadville were built around 1810 by Nicholas Phip and his partners Nicholas Gass and John Denton. One of the earliest coffeehouses in Meadville was called The Dutchman's Place and it operated from about 1811 to 1814. In 1817, Isaac Deacon opened The British Coffee House which served roasted coffee until 1830. In 1830, Henry Fenton opened The Farmer's Coffee House which served ground coffee until 1840. In 1840, James Hogg founded J&H Coffee Company which started selling roast beans from a warehouse near Market Street in Meadville. In 1865, Harry Wills opened Wills & Sons Brewery which became one of the largest brewers of craft coffee in America after becoming involved with some forward-thinking innovations such as using pre-ground beans instead of fresh beans when packaging their products for shipment. Eventually other breweries followed suit and made Meadville an increasingly popular brewing center for its rich flavor profile and wide variety of roasts available year-round. In 1921, Samuel Adams began producing their own roast beans crowning a decade of success that continues to this day. By 1945, more than 1 million barrels per week were being brewed at Samuel Adams Brewery alone including many unique blends like Samuel Adams Navy Robusto Bean blend which has been enjoyed by people around the world since its release in 1994! Meadville is a small town located in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,838 at the 2010 census. Meadville is part of the Cumberland Valley region. The first settlers in what would become Meadville were farmers who started arriving in the early 1800s. By 1825, there were about 25 families living in what is now Meadville. The name “Meadville” was given to the community by Captain George Mead of Wilmington, Delaware for being a place where corn could be easily grown due to its fertile soil and mild climate. In 1827, John Hargrave founded a gristmill on the present-day outskirts of Meadville. The mill turned out flour for local markets and also helped to support early Methodists within the community. In 1829, Reverend James McNaught purchased land east of town and built a new Methodist church which became known as McNaught Chapel. In 1830, Revisions to Lafayette Township law gave residents of that townshipthe right to vote by ballot instead of having one person chosen by lot from each family. This change allowed more people within Lafayette Township to participate in local elections and help shape future policies and decisions made about their community. This move towards democracy helped grow civic consciousness within Meadvillians and led them to demand better representation through elected officials when they began Protesting British rule during the American Revolution (1775-83). On October 15th, 1792 – two years after America gained independence from Great Britain – Captain George Mead held a meeting at his gristmill with 20 other colonists from nearby Lancaster County in order to organize an effort against British rule in America . They called themselves “The Liberty Boys” because they wanted freedom for all Americans regardless of race or religion . After successfully protesting English Rule throughout much of North America , they finally succeeded on November 14th when King George III approved Declaration of Independence . Meadvineers quickly adapted their lifestyle changes needed for independence – such as getting rid of crop rotation so that land was always ready for planting next year – while still keeping some traditions associated with British rule like cricket matches between rival groups of farmers or song & dance gatherings at night near their homes . These activities continued even after independence was declared until around 1800 when many people moved away due to lack of opportunity or violence outside their villages during wartime times . Meadville is one of the oldest settlements in Lehigh County and has been inhabited for over 200 years. The first Europeans to visit Meadville were French traders who arrived in 1724. In 1768, James Meade and his group of English settlers founded what became Meadville on the south side of the Monongahela River. After several years of growth, Meadville was incorporated as a borough by an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly on December 12, 1811. At its incorporation, Meadville had a population of only 173 people. However, within three decades, MeadVILLE had grown to encompass much more than just a small village: it became an important commercial center with access to both river and railroad transportation; it attracted artisans and farmers; and it developed into a significant educational institution. The early history of Meadville is intertwined with that of its predecessor community – La Fayette Township – which was established in 1768 near present-day Allentown by French traders under the name de Montresor (meaning "mountain place"). La Fayette Township originally included all of modern-day Lehigh County as well as parts of Delaware and Montgomery counties. When Pennsylvania attained statehood in 1787, La Fayette Township remained part of the new state but was divided among four other counties – Cumberland (northwest corner), Berks (southwest corner), Lancaster (east central corner) and Northampton (northeast corner). The first European settlers in what is now Meadville were the families of Captain John Beattie and his wife Margaret who arrived in 1768. They named their initial settlement "Beattiestown" after Captain John Beattie who had explored the area for them. In 1787, Capt. John Beattie's family sold their holdings to Nicholas Morin who renamed it "Meadville". After the American Revolutionary War, Meadville became part of York County and was incorporated as a borough on October 15, 1802. On January 3, 1875, Meadville became a township when Clearfield Township was created from parts of York and Mercer counties.
