The United States Army has been present in Meadville, Pennsylvania for over 200 years. The first residents of the town were citizens of Erie who joined the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The community was named after General George Washington, who was born in nearby Williamsburg, Virginia. In 1792, General Washington ordered an army to be deployed in defense of Philadelphia from a possible French attack. The army encamped at Meadville and the town grew rapidly with soldiers and civilians alike. In 1814, when Pittsburgh was taken by France, Meadville became part of the U.S. military occupation zone. The town continued to grow as a garrison until 1827 when it reverted back to its original status as a local municipality under British rule. When America regained independence from Great Britain in 1781, the military stationed here increased as Ulysses S Grant arrived to lead the Union forces against Confederate forces following the Battle of Gettysburg on July 4th, 1863. Many members of this community fought courageously at that pivotal moment in history and are honored today with Veterans Day ceremonies and patches worn by service members throughout Meadville Township (and even beyond). In 1916, when World War I began, Meadville residents volunteered their services to support our country through military deployment overseas. Over 50% of all males age 16 or older served in some capacity during World War I; more than any other war on record! Some notable veterans include: Major-General John J Pershing (USA) who commanded American forces fighting on both sides of World War I; Admiral Chester Nimitz (USA) whose flagship USS Enterprise fought off German warships during Operation Highjump; General Billy Mitchell (USA) who led Allied troops into battle at Cassino; and Lieutenant Colonel Emmett Till’s lynching which sparked international outrage – one event that helped spur progressive social change within South Africa later that year! For many people in Meadville Township this was their opportunity for distinguished service and leadership roles both inside and outside of society. Today we continue To honor these men and women with pride by hosting events such as Remembrance Sunday services honoring those lost during conflicts around the world!

Meadville is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, located on the Susquehanna River. Meadville was founded by Methodists in 1795, and became a coal mining town during the 19th century. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown-led metropolitan area. The first settlers in Meadville were Methodist missionaries who came from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1795. They organized a society to mine coal near present-day Meadville and named it after their home city of London, England: "Meadvile" (a corruption of "Lancaster"). Coalmining began as early as 1814; however, it did not become prevalent until the late 19th century due to advancements in technology and easier transportation methods. The first large mine opened up at Monongahela Coal Company's Westmoreland Mine in 1823; it soon became one of the largest seams mined in North America. In 1828, Pennsylvanian congressman John Dickinson introduced legislation authorizing federal regulation of mines and railroads; this led to increased mining activity both withinPennsylvania and across America due to improved transportation methods and larger deposits of coal. By 1830, over half of all coal mined was exported through American ports such as Philadelphia and Baltimore.[2] Meadville experienced some growth during its heyday as an industrial center due to its location along Interstate 80/Upper Susquehanna River Valley Route 40 between Altoona and Johnstown (and other nearby cities). However, many businesses failed during the Great Depression while other industries flourished because of new technological advances such as hydraulic fracturing (fracking) which unlocked previously inaccessible reserves beneath the earth's surface.[3] After World War II ended with Japan's surrender, much industry withered away because there was no military need for heavy materials such as coal or iron ore outside Pennsylvania since war production took precedence elsewhere.Today few jobs remain at traditional heavy industries like steel manufacturing or thermal power generation While some activities have revived including arts & crafts production,[4] Meadvillians are increasingly reliant on services provided by newer technologies like online shopping[5][6] or mobile app development that require little land or environmental impact

Meadville is a town in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,573 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1792 by John Mead and his brother-in-law Nicholas Ligonier. Meadville is located on the eastern border of Armstrong County and is bordered to the east by Uniontown and to the west by Clearfield Township. The township includes Meadville proper as well as two small villages - Springdale, which lies northeast of Meadville and south of Uniontown, and New Beginnings, lying southwest of Meadville. According to the United States Census Bureau, Meadville has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,566 people, 588 households, and 376 families residing in the town. The population density was 509.0 people per square mile (220.8/km²). There were 661 housing units at an average density of 269.7 per square mile (111.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3%. Meadville is a town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Founded in 1798 by Nicholas Mead and his wife Deborah, Meadville became one of the original towns in Fayette County when it was organized on December 12, 1819. It included the present-day communities of Meadville and Girdwood. In 1825, after part of what is now Girdwood were annexed to Meadville, the name was changed again to honor Senator John A. Dickinson (1812-1886). The first post office in Meadville opened in 1824. The Erie Canal passed through Meadville on its way from Erie to Pittsburgh. The canal had a significant impact on the economy of the town and area for many years; local mills were among the most important businesses in town until they closed during World War II. After the war, there was an effort to revive the milling industry but it proved unsuccessful; however, some remain active today as small businesses catering to a local market. Meadville has several historic churches including Saint John's Episcopal Church and First Unitarian Church which are both listed on National Register of Historic Places. There are also several contributing buildings from earlier eras including gristmills and sawmills that have been preserved as part of the downtown business district.
