The Pennsylvania National Guard is a unit of the United States Armed Forces and, as such, is part of the National Guard System of the United States. It was organized on November 16, 1776 by George Washington as an infantry regiment to serve in the Continental Army. The first unit activated under this name was Company G of the 4th Regiment of Light Infantry on November 20, 1776. On December 12, 1776, Company G became the 3rd Regiment of Light Infantry and served in the American Revolution from December 12-April 9, 1777. In 1815, Companies A & B were merged into a single battalion known as 2nd Battalion Pennsylvania Volunteer Militia (2nd Battalion PA) which served until 1861 when it was redesignated 1st Battalion Pennsylvania Volunteers (1st Battalion PA). In 1864 2nd Battalion PA was reorganized as a separate brigade and designated Brigade Headquarters and Reserve Regiment (HQ&R Regt) at Camp Butler near Philadelphia. In 1886 1st Battalion PA detached from HQ&R Regt to become 3rd Brigade Headquarters & Reserve Regiment (3rd Brigade HQ&RRegt) at Camp Butler just outside Philadelphia. On October 14, 1920 1st/3rd Brigade Headquarters & Reserve Regiment detachment moved to Fort Meade Maryland where it became cadre for 3rd Infantry Division stationed there during World War II On September 15th 1951 activation order #10 provides for establishment within Pennsylvanian National Guard Women's Auxiliary Corps On July 10th 1959 organization order #5 provided for branches subordinate to regiment command On January 8th 1960 organization order #9 provided for Detachment Colonel Whitehurst's assignment to Commanding Officer's Squadron One Hundred Seventy One
Mckeesport is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bethlehem-Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Mckeesport was Captain John Smith on July 24, 1608 while he and his men were exploring the Susquehanna River in what is now Westmoreland County. He named the river "Mackeson" in honor of John Mackeson, an Englishman who had accompanied him during his expedition along that same route. On October 15, 1614, General William Penn reached this area and built a fort here after besieging Monmouth for several days nearpresent day Allentown. On November 3 of that year Penn granted asylum to Samuel Eaton and his followers fleeing from theengagement at White Marsh (now Reading). In 1756 George Washington passed through this area on his way from Philadelphia to Carlisle Heights in Lancaster County where he founded Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello. In 1807 James Buchanan visited this area while campaigning against Andrew Jackson in Greene County and erected a monument commemorating it today which can be seen east of Interstate 81 north of Canonsburg. Buchanan also purchased 2 acres (0 hectares) west of present day Main Street and built a log cabin which became known as "Buchanan's Fort". In 1832 Congress gave Mckee Township to its current residents as part of larger land grants made available by President Andrew Johnson following the American Civil War. The town prospered until World War II when many factories closed down here because of wartime production quotasimposed by Nazi Germany. Many homes were destroyed or bombed during those years; however, most have been rebuilt over time. After 1945 much manufacturing relapsed but has since recovered with some new businesses being established recently such as Engine Services Incorporated which manufactures engines for trucks/SUVs/light trucks etc., Mckee superficially resembles most post-war Small towns throughout North America although it retains its unique character due to its position within easy commuting distance of major metropolitan areas including Philadelphia & Allentown - giving it an edge over other small towns when competing for jobs & tax dollars when seeking federal assistance or government contracts etc... Today there are about 50 businesses operating locally including 10+ restaurants & bars employing around 200-300 people directly or through subcontractors; 5 funeral homes; 3 health care providers including two pharmacies; 1 large company providing web programming services; 2 schools (one high school & one middle school); 4 churches (Methodist / Roman Catholic / Baptist / Jehovah's Witnesses ); 1 park (largest in Lehigh Co.) with playgrounds, pavilion/festival grounds & baseball diamond; 2 golf courses - one opened just last year(!!!) and one more planned but not yet started... A few hundred citizens live mainly off local excise taxes generated primarily via agricultural products raised mostly around farmsteads surrounding the town limits: hunting& fishing licenses (& related fees), used car sales registration cards (& relevant fees), real estate condominium rentals etc.; all subject to change with very little warning given… In short – if you're looking for a quaint Paiute Village feel only 10 minutes away by car from big city life then go ahead - just don't expect much else!
The National Guard is a national military force in the United States. It was created on July 1, 1947, by the National Defense Authorization Act of 1947. The guard is composed of reservists and civilians who are not part of the regular army or navy. It performs a variety of functions such as law enforcement, disaster relief, and counter-terrorism. National Guard Gifts History can be traced back to 1792 when Rhode Island's militia unit first raised an organization to protect their state from invasion by France. The Militia Act of 1792 authorized states to form militias "to suppress insurrections." This amendment helped pave the way for American independence and also gave each state the power to raise its own militia if it so desired. After the Revolutionary War, Congress passed several acts authorizing more general militarization including an act in 1802 called "An act for organizing a corps of artillery" which allowed each state to arm itself with cannons and other strategic weapons. In 1812, President James K Polk signed an act that elevated the National Guard from a volunteer force into a Regular Army Reserve under authority given to him by section 2085(a) of title 5 U.S.C., which stated: "That there shall be formed at every town within ten miles [of] any city or town seat...a company (or battalion) summoned into service for three days during such term as may be prescribed bylaw." By 1815 there were over 2 million men serving in federal militaries across America; however some 80% were enlisting for short-term deployments only (e.g., during Indian Wars). During Andrew Johnson's presidency (1865-1869), there was significant growth in both Regular Army and Militia forces due primarily to population growth rates in major Northeastern cities like New York City and Boston while rural areas remained largely untouched; this change was reversed following Grant's presidency (1868-1871). Despite this increase in manpower, civilian control over the National Guardsman began slowly asserting itself throughout Reconstruction Period until finally being fully accepted statewide after World War II ended without measurable results/ casualties attributable thereto* [*National Guard gifts history changed significantly following World War II – see below]. Mckeesport, Pennsylvania is a small town in western Pennsylvania that was founded in 1795. It is the county seat of Butler County and has a population of just over 9,000 people. The town was first settled by American Indians, who named it after their leader, McIntosh. In 1814, the town was renamed for General George Washington during his visit to the area. Since then, it has slowly declined and now has a population of 6,100 people. Despite its decrease in population size, Mckeesport remains an important cultural center for western Pennsylvania because of its rich history and culture. The town’s rich history can be found primarily on three levels: its land base which includes some of the most famous landmarks in Butler County such as Mount Carmel (which is also home to Butler University), Fort Pitt Park (home to both Pittsburgh Steelers and PPG Plantation), and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base which was home to numerous military personnel during World War II. Additionally, Mckeesport contains several museums including the Butler County Museum of History and Industry which focuses on local history; the Butler County Historical Society which digitizes many local records from before 1800; andlestown Township Hall which houses artifacts from various parts of townshiphistory including early settlers/migrants from Ireland/Scotland/Britain; among others The first residents of what would become Mckeesport arrived in 1795 following French explorer Samuel de Champlain’s exploration of what is today northwestern Pennsylvania. The town name may have been derived from McIntosh – leader of one branch of Native Americans who lived there at this time – or perhaps chosen due to location: adjacent to two major forks in nearby Indiana Territory where fur traders could meet with American Indians vendors seeking goods unavailable eastward on Long Island Sound (the current site of Pittsburgh). After America's victory over Great Britain in World War I efforts were made by various business owners within McKeesports borders produce munitions needed by allies such as France Also exported were items produced here such as clothing used throughout Europe starting with Kaiser Wilhelm coatmanufacturer Kretschmer having premises erected late 1860s Forged steel products also exported forming core industrial fabrications support heavy industries throughout Steel Valley beginning during WW2 truckbody productions began manufacturing weapons components using steroids electric furnaces built at plants outside city limits these operations continued until shutdowns seen all around early 1970s Iron works commenced operations fall 1940 utilizing natural gas mined west side coal fields Alluvial deposits taken advantage Of producing high quality iron ore shipped via canal downriver Most notable alluvial deposit being located approximately 10 miles west edge Of current day borough form original name Mckeesport started out being called Springvale prior To becoming McKeesports full name
The town of Mckeesport, Pennsylvania was founded in 1795. It is named after David McKee, a Scottish-American farmer and landowner who donated the land for the town. The first settler in the town was James McGillivray. In 1814, John Forbes built the first gristmill in the town. The mill was destroyed by a fire in 1841, but it was rebuilt and operated until 1951. The mill closed down due to competition from larger mills in nearby Pittsburgh. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln visited Mckeesport and spoke at a local schoolhouse.
