Mckeesport is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in what became Mckeesport was John McKee in 1792. He and his family were among the earliest settlers in Butler County and operated a gristmill on the Susquehanna River until 1814. They also raised chickens and pigs. In 1824, they erected a log cabin on the site of their present home; it still stands today as one of the town's original buildings. In 1829, McKeesport became known as "the corn capital of America." For many years, it was one of the largest corn-producing areas in America. By 1860, its economy had become mainly agricultural with small businesses accounting for only about 40% of its total business income. However, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), local production helped contribute to Federal military successes against Confederate forces across much of Pennsylvania and up into Ohio and Maryland. The McKeesports lost most everything to war: their home, their mill (which burned down after World War II), their slaves (most were freed after 1865), and all but three of their barns (all have been preserved). But even though they experienced great loss early on in history, they persevered through adversity--a quality that has held them together ever since. This resilience has been tested time and again over the years; for example, during those terrible floods that swept through Butler County in 2003-2004 or during Hurricane Ivan which pounded eastern Pennsylvania hard in October 2006; or when devastating wildfires struck parts of central PA earlier this year… But even more recently than any other community throughout these devastated areas –– following flooding caused by Tropical Storm Florence –––the McKeesports showed strength through thick and thin! Despite having few assets outside their homes once damage occurred -––members staged rallies/fundraisers/angels' harvests to help neighbors affected by this unprecedented natural disaster -––and despite some very difficult times overall –––they managed to pull themselves back together quicklyenough to rebuild completely within just a few short weeks! Today’s Mckeesport is an extremely diverse community with strong ties to several prehistoric cultures including Piscataway culture from northeastern Delaware who lived beside waterfowl until about 1700 BC; Monongahela culture from western North Carolina who occupied similar territory around 1500 AD; adjacent Iroquois people from six villages along Lake Erie between 1675 AD and 1800 AD; Potomac Creek confederacy from southeastern Virginia who settled near present day Washington D C c1700-1800AD; Shawnee people from central Oklahoma c1600-1680AD who mixed with Creeks there before settling permanently here c1800ADE…. These cultural influences are evident not only physically but also culturally where elements such as clothing styles etc., reflect these different groups’ activities at different points throughout history….. Today’s residents weathered Hurricane Florence relatively well due largely to our strong social support network formed over generations….. And just like always our focus remains On Our Community & What We Do To Make It Better

The town of Mckeesport, Pennsylvania was organized in 1786. The first settler in the area was James Marshall who came to the area in 1786. The town grew rapidly and by 1812 it had a population of over 350 people. In 1815, the town charter was granted and it became an incorporated municipality with a government headed by a mayor and five trustees. In 1824, the townsite was enlarged by adding part of Clinton Township. In 1827, the townsite again received an enlargement, this time adding parts of Huntingdon Township. By 1830, Mckeesport had a population of 1,000 people and it remained that way until 1861 when it merged with nearby boroughs to form Easton Borough. In 1862, Easton Borough separate from Mckeesport and attained its own government which lasted until 1945 when it merged once again with Mckeepsort to form present-day Easton Borough. The history of Mckeesport is one full of growth and progress; from small community to bustling borough through years of hard work and dedication by its citizens. The town has seen many changes since its incorporation including frequently being affected byrants such as floods or fires which have led to some rebuilding projects taking place as well as new development having sprung up around the town center over the years (e.g., Sheraton hotel). However, despite all these challenges and changes over time, there has never been a suggestion thatMckeesport would not continue grow should something happen to its current governing body or residents should they wish for different outcomes within their community; rather than just enduring change without complaint or protest like other municipalities have done in recent history
The Mckeesport area was first settled in the early 17th century by Scots immigrants. The area became a part ofPennsylvania in 1776. In 1814, the town of McKeesport was founded on the north side of the Monongahela River by James McKee and his brothers. The town grew rapidly and by 1836 had a population of over 1,000 people. It was incorporated as a borough in 1868. During World War II, McKeesport played an important role as an airbase for American forces during the European Theater of War. Navy personnel used McKeesport Naval Air Station (later US Airways) to fly missions over Europe. After the war, many businesses were established in McKeesport including steel mills and other manufacturing companies that continue to operate today. In 1955, McKeesport merged with neighboring towns of Belle Vernon and Johnstown to form what is now Pittsburgh's fourth largest city.
