Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Lower Burrell was founded in 1787 by George Washington and named for Lieutenant Colonel John Lower, who served with him in the Battle of Forbes on October 25, 1787. In 1802 Lower Burrell became a borough and in 1824 it became a town. The first settler in Lower Burrell was Elijah White. In 1865 the Borough passed to Butler County and then to Pittston Township when Butler County merged into Pennsylvania. The first post office was established at Lower Burrell on December 10, 1825. The name of the town changed from "Burrell" to "Lower Buerrel" on January 2, 1830 due to confusion over two similar towns having different names within the same county - Upper and Lower Buerrel were both incorporated as towns on June 15th of that year but their populations did not match so their names were changed back again before their incorporation into Butler County proper on July 1st (the date which should have been noted above). The first school district was formed from parts of three earlier districts: Greenfield (1827-29), Northumberland (1830-33) and Uniontown (1834-37). That school district united with neighbouring districts Devil's Den (now Bellefonte) and Milton during World War II to form Beaver Dam School District #1 which still uses that name today. Lower Burrell has had its own fire department since 1868; however these departments have been combined several times as part of larger firefighting efforts throughout Butler County including establishment of Beaver Dam/Milton/Greenfield Fire Department #2(1964), South Park Heights/Bellefonte/Uniontown FD#3(1991), Northumberland FD#4(2008) and even now there are remnants of those old departments located within lower burrell Volunteer Fire Company #1 & 2

Lower Burrell is a small town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. Lower Burrell was founded in 1784 by James and Susanna Low. The population of Lower Burrell was 1,592 at the 2010 census. It is a part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The name "Burrell" comes from an early settler named John Burrell who arrived in 1786 and settled on the site now known as Lower Burrell. In 1813, UpperBurrell Township was created from parts of Butler and Cumberland counties to include much of what is now Lower Burrell. In 1827, the township became a part of Allegheny County when it was created from parts of Butler and Westmoreland counties. The first post office opened in Lower Burrel in 1829. The townships were organized into villages in 1834 and served by their own postmasters until they were merged into one municipality in 1865. The current community began as a rural cowtown called Burtstown which developed around an Agricultural Society farm that operated between 1840-1860. By 1860, development had begun near what is now the community's center with several stores, churches (the first being Grace Episcopal Church built on land donated by Mrs. Muhlenberg), schoolhouses (grades 1-8), outbuildings (three barns, three cowsheds) and two residences built for farmers who raised corn, hay & cattle on their own property: James Low's home at 4th Street SW and Market Road NW; later also used as offices for thePittsburgh Boarding School District #2 Early Childhood Center; Mrs Harry Cogan's home at 16th Avenue SE; both were bought by Mr & Ms Galtung after her death in 1986 for $117K including all original Builder's Notes/ plans/ deeds etc., making them one of rarest Buccleuch landmarks still extant today!
