The Marines first deployed to Beirut, Lebanon as advisers in September 1946 and changed their primary mission to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in 1948. They returned to Beirut in 1951 and again from 1957 through 1959. In 1975 they withdrew from Lebanon but continued presence until 1978 when they left permanently.
Lebanon (population: 9,526) is a small town in the state of Pennsylvania. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census. It is located in Allegheny County. Lebanon was known as "The Hill" because of its high altitude and strategic location on the southern edge of Pittsburgh, just beyond the city's limits. The area now called Lebanon was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. It became a part of Allegheny County when it was established in 1807. In 1901, Lebanon voters passed a referendum to become an independent municipalitysubject to both Allegheny County and Pennsylvania State government. On July 1, 1907, the town incorporated as a borough under Pennsylvania State government with a population of 3,500 residents; however, it remained an independent municipality until consolidation with Allegheny County in 1961. The primary industries that have long been important to Lebanon are agriculture and manufacturing; however, other sectors such as tourism and medical services also play significant roles there today. In recent years several new businesses have started up or expanded their operations in Lebanon including health care providers like Kaiser Permanente and Alliant HealthCare System along with technology companies such as Google Fiber and Apple Incorporated . Lebanon has had some very hard times throughout its history but through education and community work it has bounced back again stronger than ever before- making this one of my favorite places to live!

Lebanon is a small, rural town in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is located on the Susquehanna River and shares borders with Reading and Swatara counties. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. Lebanon's history dates back to 1784 when it was part of the British colony of North America. In 1801, Lebanon became the capital of what would become known as West Pennsylvestia. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on a major transportation artery and its strategic importance as a center for coal mining and cattle ranching. Lebanon experienced significant economic growth during World War II due to its role in the production of munitions, shipping resources necessary for war effort, and housing construction by military personnel. However, after 1945 Lebanon suffered from heavy economic sanctions imposed by the United States following World War II which caused many jobs to disappear in the town. In recent years, however, Lebanese-Americans have begun making an impact in Lebanon through various businesses such as restaurants and retail stores. Lebanon is home to two universities: Messiah College (a private Baptist school) and Gettysburg College (a Presbyterian school). Additionally, there are several churches including First Baptist Church of Lebanon – one of Pennsylvania’s largest Protestant denominations – as well as multiple schools providing educational opportunities for children from pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade including Glenn Hennady Elementary School and Messiah Middle School.
Lebanon, Pennsylvania history started with the arrival of European settlers in the area in the late eighteenth century. The first Europeans to settle in Lebanon were French Protestants who came to trade with Native Americans and surveying for a new fur trading post. In 1793, Scottish Presbyterians arrived in what is now Lebanon, Pennsylvania from Glasgow, Scotland to establish a farmstead. By 1800, over 100 Scots-Irish had settled in Lebanon, contributing significantly to its growth as a town. The first school in Lebanon was built on land donated by Presbyterian minister Ebenezer Cook in 1810. The current Lebanon Baptist Church was built on land donated by Rev. John Crampton in 1868. A post office was established at Lebanon (then called Nether Leesboro) on October 1, 1814, and remained open until it was discontinued on December 12, 1899. In the early nineteenth century there were few permanent residents of Lebanon proper due to difficulties accessing transportation or water resources necessary for settlement. However, after construction of the Erie Canal began nearby (and through what is now Lancaster County), many colonists arrived seeking economic opportunities and access to newly developing markets outside of Philadelphia. By 1830 nearly all of eastern Lancaster County had been peopled; however, only about 10% of Lebanese citizens living within this area voted during colonial elections that year because they could not attend due to religious reasons such as Sabbath observance). The early years of the Republic were tumultuous; violence erupted between British soldiers occupying America while Confederation continued negotiations over boundaries between Great Britain and its colonies; and sectarian tension increased as small sects competed for control over religious holy sites across North America. These factors led some Scots-Irish immigrants who had come westward during these difficult times to adopt American identities rather than remaining associated with their Gaelic homeland back home—a process known as " anglicization ".
