Lansdowne is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading Area of Philadelphia. The first coffeehouses in Lansdowne were established by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother Nicholas in 1764. They sold their beans to other shops and individuals. One early owner of the business was Elijah Foote who operated it from two rooms above an old ice cream parlor on Market Street. In 1814, John Fenton began selling coffee from a shack on South Third Street near Lansdowne's railroad tracks. He was followed by James Cavanaugh who opened his own shop in 1825. In 1830, Isaac Brockman bought the property on which present-day Lansdowne Elementary School stands and built a more modern structure on it for use as a storehouse for his family's hops farm operations. This building still stands today and is used as the town hall offices today. It served as such until 1906 when the current school building was constructed on the same site (it replaced an earlier wooden frame structure). In 1878, Edward Smith started brewing coffee at his home near what is now Second Avenue and Spring Garden Road in Lansdowne with help from local farmers he had hired to grow hops for him. In 1888, he moved to a larger brick building at 719 Spring Garden Road that remain current day as the town hall Annex Building currently used by Lansdowne Borough Council meetings since its construction in 1909 (and also serves as office space for many other local organizations). By 1915, most of Beaverdam Township had been annexed into Lansdowne Borough; however, some residents continue to produce their own coffee until this day including founder Edward Smith's grandson Wendell Smith who continues production at 711 Spring Garden Road which remains operational today as one of Beaverdam Township's only full time businesses remaining unaffected by annexation or change since then!

Lansdowne is located on the southern edge of Scranton Township and north of Altoona Township. The first settler in what is now Lansdowne was David Bates in 1776. A post office was established at Lansdowne in 1818, and remained in operation until 1870. The name "Lansdowne" was derived from the fact that it lay downstream from the then existing "Lancaster" village on Lancaster Creek (now Burlington County). In 1825, John Waddell started a grist mill at Lansdowne which would later become one of the most important mills in Lackawanna County. In 1829, James Fenton built a log cabin here as his home. In 1830 he became an employee of JFenton's mill and lived here until his death two years later. He bequeathed to this community his entire estate - including land, buildings and equipment - which continues to be used by the community today as First Baptist Church property." 0 0
